Ok nice to see you have access to a old map of the Inner Sphere. But here is the problem I have with it.

First, its not merc corps, its merc companies, or units. They are not corps, that would imply that they do more than just provide armed muscle.

Next, your thinking TOOO big. As it is for now, you will have to model, hundreds of worlds, if not dozens of maps for different worlds. Then there is the problem of having a small playerbase spread to thin. Sure it seems like a lot right now, but 6 months after release how many do you expect to have?

So in the current beta concept is good on paper, but I think its a bit grand, and really reminds me of the EA concept for 3025. Which isnt a bad thing. But I am telling you things that I seen in the MPBT:3025 beta with that system.

Can we expect an announcement in the future...?

Or will I be deferred to post #96?

Ummm...are you talking to the developer of Mechwarrior: Online? You do know that they can make it what they want it don't you?

A bit heady of a statement if you ask me.

Play on any of the megamek campaign servers and you'll see that same map being used and it works out fine. I also think you're assuming that each world will be modeled like an RPG where you can roam around and explore.

Even I have to say tomatoe, tom-ah-toe to this one.

Far be it from me to agree with Red Beard, on principle if nothing else, but you're making some pretty big assumptions, here. First, it's 2,021 worlds, not including the Clan worlds; I could see that many being done if there were ten years AFTER release to do them in, but not initially. Second, I still think our hosts can get a good enough game out to attract a LOT of people, initially, especially if thirty million dollars worth of word of mouth can be accomplished. Third, they've said they're going to constantly be releasing update packs, DLCs, whatever you want to call them. So, yes, while it's entirely too big, initially, I think it's doable, dependent on the longevity of the game.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall, but from the beginning words like Sim, persistant universe, information warfare, etc etc keep getting mentioned, and it just keeps getting me even more excited.

+1 :)

Will the UI show the IS as a whole and allow you to focus in on certain areas or will it be under a tab where you can switch back and forth quickly? Will we be able to see specific planet views?

Like for a planet view have the planet be rotating and if there's fighting on it you can show exaggerated explosions. (IDEA ALERT)

This sounds amazing. Its exactly how I've always imagined the continuous political intrigues that are happening in the Inner Sphere. Awesome idea for how to work in the Merc Companies. It will be interesting be able to actually join one of the major states.

Sounds like a really neat system. I'm interested to see how it all works out.. Specially the Merc Corps.

Great job guys! =D

maybe im wrong... but are the merc corps the only can have unit style organization... are the faction players lone-wolfs within a big army??... because the rank system gives you better perks but, for sake of organization, can you command troops to the battle depending on your rank?.

its the big picture win and lose planets over and over again for LP, till the end of days?

I mean i see where core worlds go... when the devs see some good battles, the can make that worlds core an make and event of that. Thats good, but it not seems a player driven warfare. Maybe its not intented to.

No trolling, just asking.

Uh, guise? The Inner Sphere may be thousands of worlds in total, but I doubt that we'll be fighting on even a tenth of that. And when we do get on the ground, my bet is that many planets will share the same maps as others, due to having a relative same-ey climate or level-of-development. Maybe with a few assets changed here and there so it isn't so obvious, but that's easy to do.

Seems like people would be right on House military versus Mercenary "Clans", especially with how military people will be getting greater ranks and likely mech access rights to go with it to boot. Did the community influence Piranha or was that your plan from the very start?

Or did I clumsily miss someone on the team mentioning that in the first place?

I am sure that there are plenty of people out there that will form "Corps" and fight as units for the houses in organized units. Teams will team up even if not officially corps/guilds in game.

I love this! Perfect Meta game, fantastic. :)
My only concern now is, if players can "Lemming" their ways up the ranks, I mean, with loyalty points in mind I hope it all doesn't turn into a mindless run&gun>dead, respawn >run&gun>dead type of game play. Beside my concern this a great system - you reward playing the game, as I expected. Hopefully playing smarter = staying alive gain you more then headless pushing.

Map looks awesome, the one area of concern is the lack of the St. Ives compact as an independent nation. While I can understand linking them with the Capellans for historical reasons, the reality is that they were closely aligned with the Federated Commonwealth, so it seems that if it had to go either way, they would be yellow instead of green. Just my two cents on this matter.

Sure would like a separate St. Ives...

The part with the Faction Warfare sounds good, but the Loyality Points and Rank System sounds very unbalanced. Lone Wolfs can collect LP but they are useless without Ranks... Why should those people play more than one match without the motivation to get anything?
Another thing that bothers me are the bonuses for Faction Ranks. Realy Exp and Credit-bonus? They will level faster and have more money to equip the Mechs. If Lone Wolfs will fight against Factionplayers it will be totaly unbalanced. My conclusion: those Matches should not take place, but then Lone Wolfs won't be able to take part in the real Warfare. Why should they play when they miss the core part of the game?
Another Question are the Factionbonuses offered by holding planets. What do they look like? Lone Wolfs will not get those, that means even more disadvantages. I don't understand why this option exists, when the only things you will get are disadvantages. I hope there are plans to boost those Players in another way =)
