Mechs that I haven't seen frequently or in a long while (or never)
-Victor (Especially the Dragon Slayer)
-Heavy Metal (Collectively Highlanders)
-Pretty Baby (Awesomes in general)
-Kintaro (Non-GB Variants, and non-18 Variants)
-Trebuchet
-Ice Ferret
-Vindicator
-Shadowhawk
-Mist Lynx
-Top Dog (T-bolt Hero)
-Quarantine (I don't think I've ever seen this mech on the battlefield)

I actually see a lot of Vindy's - so they should probably be dropped from the list.

Some Cicadas can be pretty lackluster. I think it is just that the die-hards have had them for so long they've learned the best ways to use them. Nova is also a bit of a mess.

Hero mechs are going to be rarer by their nature, the one of two variants that you have to pay real money. I would say the Champion mechs are even more rare than any one hero considering many think of them as a wast of money (outside of some hero packs or giveaways)

The mechs that are rarely seen:
Light Mechs:
♦ Spiders other then 5D - ECM variant
♦ Commandos = gone extinct in higher tiers, besides occasional trolling on my part in TDK
♦ Locust - other then 1E or Pirates Bane
♦ Panthers - all of them
♦ Firestarters - have been replaced by Arctic Cheetahs and Oxides
♦ Myst Lynx , Adder, and Kit fox - have joined Commandos in their obsolescence

Medium Mechs:

• Centurion - a rare sight these days
• Trebuchet - goes without saying
• Ice Ferret and Nova - goes without sayng

Heavy Mech:

○ Catapults - as missile boats, could be a tier thing
○ Cataphracts = obsolete
○ Orions - just hardly ever seen
○ Summoner = other then occasional streak 30 troll build

Assault Mechs:
◘ All the 80 toners with exception of Zeus, and even those are not a common sight.

Took the Treb 5N out for a spin to *finally* level it out, managed a match with 4-7, 743.. ..not bad for such an average mech :P

I saw one the other day on portico. Scared the crap out of me. It's insane to see an 80 ton mech move 90.1 kph and be in your face with 3SRM6 and an AC20

Must be different in Tier 1, see at least one of these mechs in my PUG drops.

I have only seen a Kintaro once. EVER. I am also a rare Orion pilot, with 3 out of the 5 purchased, and 1 elited.
I see a few Trebuchet pilots every now and again. I have seen only 4 other Orions. Zeus' Victors and Gargoyles are pretty rare too.
And I have never ever seen a Quickdraw.

What exactly happened to those? I only just started playing again since around the switch to 12v12 and they used to be everywhere. I suppose a fair number of them were the jump sniping PPC/Gauss silliness which I don't really miss, but I hardly see any at all now.

Well, cataphracts use to have a niche for players that wanted a good mix of balastics and energy hardpoints on a heavy chasis other than a Jagermech. With the release of both the Warhammer and Marauder it has lost that niche. Additionally, the Cataphract has always been considered a knuckle-dragger ( arms hang too low). It is still a viable mech, just not as popular with the current meta.

Any Clan light other than an Arctic Cheetah or a Jenner IIC, which is a damn shame because I feel that the Mist Lynx is very underrated. The Kit Fox and the Adder bot have good uses, the Adder A and the Kit Fox D are both excellent missile boats and the Mist Lynx is one of the more balanced Clan lights when it comes to stats. Yes, it's firepower is in it's arms, but it has a fairly good top speed at 113.4, can fill a wide variety of roles, is easy to change its roles, and it is very cheap.

I love my quarantine! absurd paint job and does some good brawling with an shotgun and some srm love.

Than again, I also really enjoy the locust-1v and the top dog, so maybe I am a bit of an outsider :)

I drove an awesome back in early Beta when PPC's were so slow the awesome could almost outrun the projectile. Ping was 800+ so could only hit stuff if it was right at the edge of minimal range and then most times didn't hit reg. Was so frustrating I quit and didn't come back until this year. Trauma to great to go back there again don't know what it is like now but if you want a challenge they seem pretty easy to pull apart even if PPC's are better then they were then (and still suck).

The only use for a Cataphract these days is to mount good energy weapons in the two high-mounted torso slots some of them have. Then, put an autocannon in the right torso and use the stupidly huge, hanging arms as shields. The Cataphracts that depend upon arm mounted weapons are basically unplayable these days since they mostly shoot dirt and have to expose an insane amount of the mech to enemy fire to hit anything.

Awesomes are still a trainwreck, even though I like them. The huge torso hitboxes are still a problem, and while they can mount decent firepower, they bring nothing unique to the table. Zeus can do almost anything they can, and with higher speed and better hitboxes, and the Victor, while also having horrible hitboxes, does have the brawling and autocannon side of things covered.

The Awesome should be a tough medium to long-range fire support platform, but it usually has a bad time of it. The rescaling may help, though fixing all the PPC problems would really help. I also wish the Awesome hero "Pretty Baby" wasn't one of the worst mechs in the game.

FWL mechs that have lost / never really had popularity, huh?

Well, there's the Spider, which used to be popular but has faded to obscurity.
There's the Trebuchet - which I actually really enjoyed using, but people seem to hate it.
There's also the Quickdraw, which people gripe about, again, but treated me somewhat well.
The Orion never really took off in popularity.
Likewise, the Awesome has always been much derided, but it was one of my favourite assaults to pilot.

Anything I've not mentioned is either just general purpose, or still pretty popular.

If it ever gets released, the Hermes II is a definite FWL must have.

It is interesting that I've seen most of the mediums mentioned resurrected for scout mode.

I second everyone who said Ice Ferret and Kintaro. I never run into either one of those.

Hello,
So im a rare pilot.
I have both Dragons and Kintaros and i love them.
But u are right i dont see them often, no idea why.
I run both with nearly max XL-Engine, flank and attack with other fast mechs. AC-Dragons and SRM-Kintaros have a fine punch.

Greetings
