Best And Worst Cockpit Layouts

I reckon the best one that I've seen so far is a tie between the Raven and the Kit Fox ones. Extremely wide field of vision due to multiple windows, frontal mount. Looks pretty good too, but the KFX's GoPro camera really gets in the way when shooting down (Raven's beak as well, but that's another issue).
The worst I've seen is probably the Commando, followed by the Atlas. Very, very poor visibility due to its positioning in a sunken part of the head. Centurion has this too to an extent. Honorary mention to Locusts' cockpits, because of the roll bar on top which prevents you looking at whatever your arms can shoot when you're looking up (prevents accurate shooting of UAVs)

Shadowhawk is high on the worst list.
Pirate's Bane with machine guns is probably the absolute worst.

Highlanders have armor slabs on either side of the cockpit, which limits FOV quite a bit...
Stalker cockpit windows are wide but pretty short, not a huge problem though.
I general I don't notice huge differences between mech cockpits, they don't really vary THAT much.

Cataphract: Amazing
King Crab: Good
Atlas: Bad
Other mechs:
Jenner - Bad
Shadowhawk - Bad
Stalker - Good
Grasshopper - Average. Good vision on one side, completely blocked on the other

The Awesome has great visibility IMO.
The absolute best is probably the Mad Dog or the Rifleman.

I'd give worst to the locust. So much of the forward view is obstructed. Is the bubble canopy lostech?

Edit: I just asked my wife for more monitors and she told me, "No." I threw myself on the floor, simulating a childish tantrum but she still said, "No." Life is cruel.

Also count me in for hating the Shadow Hawk cockpit, especially when firing quick-reloading ballistics.

wrap around cockpits (good for trackir and multi-screen setups)
no useless windows which are blocked by your own mech's geometry
fewer/narrower struts.
no cockpit geometry blocking windows, like screens.
good placement for cockpit items (out of the way)
things i dont:
tunnel vision
blocked windows (why put a window where you cant use it?)
excessive/huge struts (locust)
weapon flashes blocking view
internal geometry doesn't match external geometry (jenner iic)

I've had a triple monitor setup for years now but I've just never found using all 3 in a game to be all that worthwhile. Many games end up with messed up HUDs, and the view on the side monitors are always super distorted. Plus, running such a massive resolution hurts your framerates, and I'd rather have 100+ FPS on one monitor than sub-60 on three. It's great for productivity though, and for playing a game while watching Giant Bomb videos.
Now VR, that's something I really want to see in this game. Being able to look around your cockpit without the mouse would be quite awesome.

For that matter, the Commando is Lordred's preferred 'Mech for his Perfect Screenshot Thread because of the clean, unobstructed view.

I'll give it that the centre window is actually clear and unobstructed, but playing mechs with aircraft-style canopies has spoiled me for peripheral vision :X For a mech with good range of lateral arm movement, this is a dealbreaker.

Try using Free Look to avoid it. Your arm actuators will move, but your torso won't pitch any further and therefore allow you to get past the frame. This happens on the Raven and the Locust as well.
