Almost everyone is saying this is a pretty poor excuse for a Clan assault mech. Well, my body is ready! Shiny and chrome!

Well, it may be widely considered as a poor excuse for a clan assault mech. It may be slow. It may be burdened with useless hoverjets. It may not have a lot of hardpoints. It may not have the best hardpoint placement. And it really has no quirks.

But I'm still going to commit myself to this make and make the Highlander IIC great again! I've no idea how to do it. Here's what I'm thinking.

HGN IIC - Gauss + Triple LPL
HGN IIC A - Quad CERPPC
HGN IIC B - Frankenmech!
HGN IIC C - Dual UAC10

Trying to make this silly non-quirked Highlander work while also carrying LRMs and jump jets (for nostalgia) may be too much. Time will tell.
Anyone else taking the challenge and buying this venerable old mech tomorrow?

HGN IIC - Gauss, 2x LPL, ERML
HGN IIC A - Quad LPL
HGN IIC B - Gauss, 2x cERPPC (also ran Gauss, 4x SSRM4, 2x LPL for the grins and giggles)
HGN IIC C - Double UAC10

That's how I did mine.

Good luck. If I am to buy the HGN-IIC, you know I'll turn it into a quad CLRM15 LRM boat. However, ever since the cooldown nerfs of LRMs few months back, I don't think that is worth it any more. Single tap CUAC5 alone has more DPS than CLRM15. Posted Image

Since all of your builds let you stay at medium to long range, you will do alright. Playing it as a brawler was suicide when I tried it even though you can build it with lots of brawly weapons, it just can't survive. Only build I would change is your IIC-B, I would dump the SRMs and try to cram something like 4 X LRM10 into it instead...I would try to avoid being close enough to use SRMs in a HGN IIC. Once it gets to brawling, HGN IIC is in big trouble.

Good luck, I think if you can stay at range, you can do good with those builds.

Well, I made some adjustment to your Charlie variant while keeping the LRM (so that there's no ugly hole on the chest): HGN-IIC-C

Good luck and I wish you have a good time!

EDIT: and to your (O) variant since you need a lot of DHS to fire those triple cLPL with ghost heat: HGN-IIC

Highlander IICs, imho, have an undeserved reputation for being bad. They aren't, but a lot of people try to make them do things that they can't and complain that the failure is the mech's. The way the hardpoints are spread out makes sword&board (AKA, dead-side) builds impractical. Frontload your armor, alternate your side twists, you'll be fine. There's no reason to NOT use a 325XL, it's the max engine mountable, you can survive a single side-torso loss due to clan XL, and you are still dangerous with half a mech (the lack of centerline hardpoints makes zombie builds kinda' pointless). Jump jets are good for assisted climbs, and maybe spreading some damage to your legs, but don't expect to go sailing over the heads of your enemies.

Dooo eeet. You know you wanna.

I did. It rocks. Chain fire and you really don't notice that the cooldown is 5.5 seconds.

Off the top of my head, mine also carried 2 LPL as backup weapons.

Don't forget dual CUAC/10 + 3 CLPL on the IIC-C. 8 tons is way too much ammo, but you're out of crits even with an XL325.

I got one and I kind of like it. I kept dual uac10, one lpl, 2 ml, one lrm15 and one lrm 5. It works ok. Oh, xl 325 all the way. Spent 6 million getting it all souped up.

I am too lazy to log in to look at my builds I just know I run the IIC-B with quad lrm10's and an uac20 with some kind of laser support. Most amusing build I've ran on the thing. People do not respect the UAC20 until it is too late.

Second that. Ok they don't have the turret capability of DWs but they the extra speed makes up for a lot of it. Chest E is high-ish and the total loadout is not horsecrap. :)

Smurfy build if you can. I must build this.

Been there. Done that. Got the scoreboard.

The HGN IIC is just fine. As usual the community needs to L2P before running off at the mouth about mechs being bad.

I didn't dive deep into these, but - is there at least one advantage over the IS? HBK and JNR IIC are reasonable upgrades, but this seems like a downgrade.

Ok, let's see. These builds seem pretty legit. Except weapon convergence couldn't be farther apart, which makes it really horrible. That RT completely ruins whatever the IS HGN had going for, not to even mention the quirks. From what I've seen my best bet would be brawler UAC build with SRMs, the spreaded hardpoints just won't work well at longer ranges.

And indeed sure is a challenge. Good luck!

But you got double UAC10 there, not 20.
