Boating, alone, does not explain why 2 or 3 ML deal more damage to a single component that a single LL does. In TT ganes the ML boats did not deal 30 damage to one component when firing 6ML. It's the convergence of Massed smaller weapons that makes MWO behave differently than TT for this particular thread topic.

That's why I coined the phenomenon "Massed Convergence"

Well, in mwo this is the effect I think of when I say boating, but with your way of putting it we could just call it aiming... But that was already mentioned by someone else, and so was convergence, so.. . :) its just the opposite of random I guess.

Not by default, but they could. I don't have my rulebooks with me, but as I recall you could opt to fire all weapons as a single shot and it would then resolve as a single shot. Might have been a To Hit penalty involved if you did that, though. You could also performa a Called Shot (with a large To Hit penalty) if you wanted to aim for a specific armor section not including the Head.

It's just that the default is reversed in MWO.

Those shots didn't hit the same spot - never unterstand this rule anyhow - only with TC or the MG Array were able to hit the same spot.

This "Massed Convergence" only happens with multiple HPs say Executioner Thunderbolt Black Knight - or less pod space - good example Dragonfly B and Fenris Prime.
Or the Sunmoner Prime would just be better with at least 3-4 energy HP instead of a single larger weapon.

Uhm what if all weapons get a kind of splash damage with relativ more splash for smaller weapons
