I hate to tell you... But I think you can fit more PPC on a Kodiak than a Dire... No locked equipment, and you can downgrade the engine to get more tonnage. One of the Kodiaks can do 11 energy hardpoints.

Edit - I lied; I love saying that!

Dire Wolf's energy slots are in a better spots, too.

Don't care. Standard DireStar has 9 CERPPCs. DireStar Mk.II has 10 ERPPCs. I am pretty sure the Kodiak can do 11.

I already knew they were going to be there, I think some already knew too, I mean, where else are they going to go? You want them more downwards towards the CT and have some funky junk going on there?

AC20 man parts ?

You'd certainly get a bigger bang for your buck

Also can't do that because the hand actuator.

12-4=8
2*4=8

cLPLs and cERPPCs are the same size

You can do 6 cLPLs, 26 DHS with ~max armour and a ~XL350. Much hotter than the PeacDove with 4...so it'll be toasty. But, you can remove 2 of them, mount a Gauss, and sacrifice some heatsinks (needed for the Crit Count)

I also forgot to account for actuators, so my theory crafts are also slightly off.
Serves me right for not using the proper template

Dire Wolf can carry a gauss rifle in each arm plus a massive bundle of lasers, allowing it to hit targets at almost any angle vertically. Arm mounted gauss also means that side torso crits don't destroy your gauss rifles more or less instantly.

There's also the crazy dual-gauss on one side of the mech assymetric build that the Kodiak will not be able to do.

Sure, the Kodiak will have the edge when peeking with dakka, but let's not act like the DWF is going to be made completely obsolete.

I just thought of something...

Clan Gauss... 6 slots each.

High-mounted Quad Gauss...? Yes, it can only fire 2 x 2... But...

You're saying we'd have to STD the engine. I can understand that.

So instead, Dual Gauss, Dual UAC/10.... sounds just as dangerous.

48 kph center torso. That is all I will say. If the dire were a bit more durable and perhaps a bit faster (not much mind you) it would be in a far better place even compared to the kodiak. It the Dire can match the king crab in maneuverability and durability its in a good place, considering the two mechs are are really quite similar.

I usually avoid gauss because the charge mechanic makes me angry. Also I can't see any reason you wouldnt run quad UAC10, or quad UAC 5 double ER PPC or something like that.

Well, if you're taking advantage of high weapon placements, that's the only time usually that I do dual Gauss, which is rare unless it's a per say, Dire Whale.

Dual Gauss and Dual UAC/10 does sound dangerous; not that I see many using it but...

The biggest problem with the King Crab is its geometry.

Just put on a "Wide Load" sticker on the back of it.

The one thing Gyrok seems to forget in a Dire Wolf vs King Crab debate (which is that the Dire Wolf > King Crab generally speaking) is that in order to get the weapons to bear for the King Crab, you need lots of clearance space for the arms to shoot its target with. This is before talking about being able to shoot over hills.. it's just that you can't have mechs or terrain anywhere near its firing radius, unless you like shooting into terrain all day.

Of course, I see enough King Crabs trying to get away with running an XL engine (it's just easier to shoot the heavily armed side - usually the Right Side with the energy weapons, unless it is missile heavy).

Anyways, the King Crab is a non-starter argument - especially from those that don't understand the King Crab's major flaws.

how about those who make use of it's advantages..like ignoring the arms and using the high weapons on the carapace?

The problem is with that is that you'd have very little vision before you can aim your weapons properly... and that torso is pretty wide and isn't hard to aim at (I'd almost say the Atlas has it good by comparison - despite being limited to brawling - you can shield with the arms at least).

Yes, they are high mounted, but who bothers to run 4 ERLL (or some alternative combination for the energy heavy side) or 4 LRMs/SRMs of some type w/o losing those trades immediately?
