Depends on the map.

For example, I can't see LRMs working at all on River City Domination, given that the center point is the citadel, and both teams are often on opposite sides of it.

Disclaimer: I haven't played Dom on every map.

But I haven't come across one yet that they weren't really handy on.

The nature of the game mode makes them much more useful than you'd think, it's pretty easy to get a flanking angle and force them out of the circle to avoid the rain (or into DF allies LOS)

As well, you can be in the circle and lend weight of fire to engagements within and without. Really, they're awesome in Dom.

Heh, ended up on Bog Dom last night in group queue. I think we had one narc mech and one lurmer out of 8. The group of 4 we picked up had two lurm mechs. Halfway through the match, an enemy starts to complain about our unit using lurms extensively.

Considering that we happened to have a narc mech and 1 lurm on our team, we laughed. It was golden. Lurms do have a use. Forcing mechs to find maybe bad cover where our DF mechs have clear shots.

Not that we havent stacked 6 lurm mechs with two narc/tag lights... but that is just inefficient.

I see that all the time. 1, maybe 3 LRM mechs on a team, and the OpFor complains to no end about "all the LRM's"... It's funny, because a whole team could be full of lasers, nary a peep.

Narc and tag and lurm team on Highlands is scary. Brawling Atlas there, sad.

Might be a tier thing, but most team I get in PUG aren't convinced to fight at all. They mostly keep themselves behind cover and watch those fool enough to get into the circle get slaughter.

I haven't decided yet if domination is worse than conquest in PUG. Conquest require some global situation thinking while Domination demands the courage to take a few hit: PUGs lack both of these.

There are plenty that do that, but at least its not conquest where some dumb assault thinks its his job to cap, or some light/medium lance refuses to come help on what would otherwise be a close fight and basically loses the game for you while they waste time capping and then get killed anyway.

On domination there aren't any distractions for them.

Here is the spot, go there and hold it - shoot stuff.

Not saying Domination is a good mode, but people must find something they like about it since I see it often.

My biggest issue with Skirmish is the "chase the light" it devolves into, EVERY SINGLE MATCH. Chasing a lone surviving Cheata for the last 5 minutes gets old, and with no capture points available, there's no way to force a win besides killing.

It's the fastest mode now to grind now. Guaranteed fights and quick matches.

Laser mechs can't all shoot you at the same time while you're already in cover just because some single rando opponent has a lock on you from an angle.

Heh, having a Lurm boat get the high ground on you in Bog while theres a narcer running around, on Dom, wasn't fun apparently. Teamwork OP?

It is the perfect mode for MWO. Allows everyone to level up their mechs quickly so they are ready for the next month's release.

the number of times I've peeked out of cover and eaten 3+ laser alphas, I have no sympathy.

I just laugh and laugh, when supposedly good players cry about lrms. It's hilarious.

It's team work focus fire for noobs basically.

It requires no effort, just a lock - and it loses vs actual team work and coordinated focus fire which is why you never see it in comp.

When you pop out an eat 3 laser alphas, that's your mistake.

When you are in whatever cover is available but simply can't disappear from sight totally and still be hit with missiles that's a bad mechanic.

I'm also not crying about it, you asked a question and I gave you an answer.

Logical fallacies aren't going to improve your argument.

Read that to yourself again.

Consider. If I moved into cover but couldn't disappear from sight entirely and ate three laser alphas by people who could see a part of my mech, you'd say I picked inadequate cover or failed to account for the avenues of attack.

If you're still getting lurmed, you made a mistake by not accounting for potential LRM flight paths. It's no different than the laser situation. Pick better cover next time.

I don't mind Domination, I'd just rather not have it on Bog (tis a bit unfair to one side) or Polar (takes too long to get to it). It's good on HPG, not too bad on Grim.

If it isn't an utter placement fail like Crimson (or Alpine), then Domination basically guarantees a mutual spot where you will see and kill robots.

In solo mode, that's not bad at all.

I've noticed that Alpine is a terribly one sided map for Domination also.

It seems like one side gets cover and the other side gets to run out in the open. I tried the first few times I had the bad side, now I don't even care if I get the bad side. I want the match over as quickly as possible.

But yeah, the secondary objectives are completely useless. They're literally useless way in a match, if your winning later there's no need, and if you're tied or losing, going to hit them just hastens your team's demise. This means they're either useless, or actively a disadvantage to destroy.

Honestly, the MFBs should be armed and firing. Even if it's LB-10X's and LRMs. Give people a reward for killing them, too aside from the generally meaningless timer reset, as 99% of Domination maps end with one side killing the other.
