I'm not sure whether to go for the banshee, mauler, king crabs (Have that special one that PGI gave out) or something else. Inner sphere or clan, could do either side.

I have atlas's, Battlemasters, warhawks, gargoyles, Dire whales, Stalkers, Victors, and Zeus's.

I love missiles (SRMS not LRMS), Ballistics and PPCS, but I don't mind all laser builds either. I Also favor Brawling more than long range combat.

The Banshee can be a tank and has a mix of ballistics and energy, but sadly no missiles really. The mauler looks like its got a bit of everything, but not sure if putting missiles on it makes it easier to lose torsos because of the missile racks.

I suggest you get Maulers. They can be tons of fun especially the MX90 with 5 AC/5s. Nothing beats good ol dakka dakka :)

You've piloted Victors and Zeus but not an Awesome yet?

I recommend Banshees and Maulers. One have high mobility and if you are a good pilot, can survive pretty well with an XL engine (NOT that I use it though) and have pretty good firepower. The other, have amazing firepower for its weight, though it is on the slow side. Especially if you want to mount tons of weapons, armor and ammo.

I tried them a long time ago, before quirks. Didn't like them. How are they now? I only really see them as LRM boats if I see them at all.

Been keeping an eye on this mech. Don't know if I want to drop the cash for it though. I have a bunch of MC already and Plenty of premium time stacked up so i'm just going with the F2P route for now.

None of the above. Go Highlander. Its the only mech that meets your SRM brawling requirement. The Mauler is a poor brawler.

I recommend the Highlander-733C with an AC-20 and SRMs or the 732B with its massive durability quirks. Jump jets still suck but the quirk fairy helped the Highlander quite a lot.

Another option is AC-10 + 2x PPC and then AC-10 + SRM for up close.

If you want SRM's then the King Crab and Mauler do both.

If you want a meta mech the Banshee is the obvious choice out those you mentioned.

Crab is lower wider and out of it and the Mauler adding SRMs will not increase it's size as much.

Maulers weapons are more grouped, for better pin point but the King Crab ridge humps and corner pokes better, if you groups the arm weapons separately.

Pure looks I'd go King Crab.

As others have suggested the Kodiak, but that is a complete unknown, though I would hazard a guess it's going to be better than the Mauler

Yes forgot about the Highlander, was wondering if it can brawl or not. I do like having an AC20 to play with

Seriously, that thing is terrifying. I dread the time it finally sees the light of day.
On another note, i'm hoping we get a Cyclops announcement this upcoming week, cause Cyclops would be pretty cool, in my opinion (even though it will probably suck horribly)

If you pick Banshee, you will make a good choice.

I am not a big fan of fatties, but that mech is simply good.

One variant has one missile hardpoint if you really want those LRMs Posted Image

Highlander 2c is quite a lot of fun if u like mix builds

Tier 1 god mode esport with small epeens trash it cuz it aint meta.......but its got versatility

Down here in tier 3 scrub hell i run a few different loadouts

1.) Brawler. Uac20 3t. 4srm6 2t. 2lpl
2.) Boat. 3lrm15 lotta ammo and 3lpl. (Not my favorite). 4lpl 3srm6 but not til elited
3.) 2uac10 (lotta fun. Double taps anyone?) 3mpl 2lrm15

Somethin like 50 tons of pod space. Hell i think i put a TC4 in build 3

Master your King Crab first, then either Banshee or Mauler.

King Crabs are great fun. Costly, but fun.

I recommend the king crab.

Its energy and missile hardpoints are high ^ giving it the option of poking over hills like a stalker. A few large lasers to compliment your dakka work great. It can mount SRM's with room to spare. Its multiple ballistic hardpoints while not high mounts seem to have a damage inflation effect similar to LRM's. And it looks cool as hell.

Its also very versatile. Depending on the variant its possible to boat dakka(6 AC2's, 4 AC5's), LRM's(4 x LRM15), large lasers(4 ER LL or LL), 4 LPL's, dual gauss, dual AC20's or up to 4 SRM6.

Assault mechs I recommend you avoid are the highlander II due to its abysmal acceleration and torso twist rates.

I've got about 300 matches in the Highlander. In the current meta, I wouldn't call it a good brawler, at all. Yeah, the HGN-733 with 4xSRM6+Artemis hurts, but compare it to the AS7-S.
  • Atlas is 10 tons heavier, basically the same speed, if you want to.
  • Atlas gets 31 CT structure bonus, HGN-733 gets 14. Atlas gets 28 side torso structure bonus. HGN-733 gets 10
  • Atlas has AC20, Highlander has AC10
  • Atlas has 4 energy hardpoints, Highlander has 2.
  • Atlas gets 10% bonus to missile cooldown, range and speed. HGN-733 gets 15% cooldown bonus, 5% speed bonus, no range bonus.
  • HGN-733 has hoverjets. Useful for stepping over dog poop, and little else.
If you get the Highlander, do it because it's a beautiful, iconic mech. Not because it's actually good at anything, because I think you'll find that whatever it does, other assault mechs can do it much better.

I'd get the Mauler. And if you're a real man, put some god damn LRMs on it.

@Alistair: He already owns the Atlas and wants another brawler.

all 3 of the mechs in the op's first paragraph are solid. king crabs are more or less mixed with an emphasis on guns. banshee has good ballistics and laser vomit varients, there is a mixed variant with a single rack which is the least useful bansh, but still pretty good. the mauler is mixed like the crab but with really good ballistic and missile options. just get all of them.
