Wow.

Alex did yet another beautiful job on the Cyclops. Mech porn, through and through and love love love the head on that beast.

And it's nice to see that they are adding a specialized piece of equipment ot it. the Tacticon 2000 BattleComp.

Q: What is the "Tacticon B-2000 Battle Computer" mentioned on the Cyclops page?
The Tacticon B-2000 Battle Computer is a modified version of the standard Sensor suite found in the Head component of most 'Mechs. As with the Life Support system and the Cockpit, the standard Sensor suite is a piece of Fixed Equipment; it takes up 0 usable slots and weighs 0 tonnes.
The Sensor suite is what allows your 'Mech to use its standard targeting abilities.

The B-2000 Battle Computer is a special version of this standard Sensor suite, and is currently exclusive to the Cyclops chassis. It replaces the standard Sensor suite, takes up 0 usable slots, and weighs 0 tonnes.

The B-2000 Battle Computer provides the following benefits, on top of the standard abilities of the basic Sensor suite:

• Boosts the standard Sensor Range of the Cyclops 'Mech.
• Boosts the standard Sensor Range of any ally 'Mechs within radius of the Cyclops.

This sounds good, though the range is as yet undetermined. That's understandable because it because it will need in house testing, and let's face it, neither the Cyclops nor the BattleComp even exist in house, yet. So whatever base range they are thinking will undoubtedly change for better or worse with testing.

All to the GOOD.

But.... will it matter, regardless
The average drop sees 3+ ECM mechs per side, at least in my Tier. So unless the Tacticon 2000 provides some resistance to, or ECM Busting capability..... that extra range will just be countered the majority of most matches, anyhow.

SO, I posed this question to Russ, not expecting an immediate reply, but as food for thought.
Let's be objective. It has a prominent CT, and exposed STs the arms will do little or nothing to block. So it is not going to have great hitboxes.

Some, like the Sleipner have interesting hardpoint mixes.... but the mounts if following the art and traditional placement will be waist height, mostly. So your mech will see a LOT of exposure, and does not have the geometry to twist and absorb it. 1 model of the reinforcements get's ECM, which will help SOME but not enough in actual combat.

So....what can be done?
1) If some modules will boost it's range more it would help
2) If it's special ability also expanded friendly BAP radius it might help.
3) If the Tacticon actually could ignore ECM to some degree (like BAP overcome 1 enemy ECM) then it might help.
4) ??????

Because if it's sensor bonus is just blocked by ECM..... why would you bring one instead of an Atlas or Wubshee?

extra sensor range is good for lrms/ERPPC/GAUSS
the faster you are able to target enemies the more likely your team will target them

except that it will always be blocked by ECM. And Long Range Missiles used at long range only works in the Underhive.

I still think that most of the variants really should have ECM access. I'd understand the quad-ballistic variant being exempted because of things like quad AC builds, but the others really ought to have it.

I'm not expecting anything "flavorful" for the Cylon though. The most we're going to get will be very generic and uninspired quirks for structure, agility, and weapons in relatively low values like most other mechs have.

Great. So a weapon almost no one uses that require LoS to disrupt so your Special Range can be used for 2 seconds, before it fuzzes, and your massed LRMs lose lock.

Not sold.

The Magic Jesus Field is based off the base sensor range, so this does let you target ECM mechs a tad further.

It's it's 1200M instead of 800M, that means you can see ECM mechs at 300M, instead of 200 (because 25% sensor range Magic Jesus Field)

WOOHOO!!!

Well, Russ is thinking a massive 150m, pre testing. And so wowzer.... IF the two do correlate (not guaranteed they will run it that way) you can defeat ECM to 240 meters?

Pardon me while I order the parade supplies.

People disliking the Cy cause it brings nothing new, yea, so do many other mechs in BT. It has some sort of support like ability that makes it stand out a bit, I like that and i hope they make some more for other or well lacking of awesome quirkness mechs. Also im attracted to how weird it looks like all my other mechs ie; SMN and TDR.

Also, I will be VERY disappointed if the head laser in the Sleipner doesn't fire out of the middle of the eye.

There is ZERO reason it should, or where that even remotely make sense (hey we can make up some space magic rules about fiber optic lasers embedded in the viewscreen). It's purely RULE OF COOL.

At the very least it will look cool for my HBS Battletech unit.

The little shoulder laser on the Hunchback is smaller than the typical design, it's possible they could put something like that just below or above the eye for effect.

wait what?

but advanced sensor module + BAP doesnt let you detect ECM mechs at 300m instead of 200m.

I dont think cyclopes will be able to detect ECM at 300m either. the potatotron 2000 sounds like it just gives a buff to sensors in the same way that asm and BAP give a buff to sensors.

I do agree with the "nothing new sentiments", and we will be seeing much more of that as the game progresses, due to having so many mechs in game. Im attracted to its look to, especially that head.

I was trying to figure out if the 150m was the extra range or if it was the 'buff' range to other mechs.

If MWO had ended up with the artists from MW:Tactics this game would have gone under already. It really boggles my mind how many people are willing to happily hand over money for mechs that are redundant, bring nothing new to the game, and (in some cases), not even good just because the art is pretty.

It would be the coolest thing ever, though.

I'm not interested in the mech as it stands (though it IS damn sexy; Alex did a bang up job, even by his standards) but if the head laser fired out of the "eye"? I'd buy it for that reason alone. Totally serious here.
