except that it will always be blocked by ECM. And Long Range Missiles used at long range only works in the Underhive.

they should really just be renamed MRMs and be done with it because I can count with one hand the number of times Ive hit at 800+m a target with LRMs in at least the past 30 matches.

The Magic Jesus Field is based off the base sensor range,

Even more reason to allow this mech to have ACCESS to ECM imho

According to my stats pages, the pilot module tab shows my W/L ratio goes up by roughly .4 when I have the sensor range module equipped.

Now, this is a module I only use dropping pug in quick play. So, consider the effect on your typical pug that is 50% relying on red doritos and the other 50% relying on following the herd, in typical hurr durr play. The effect of seeing red doritos from farther away has a provable benefit based on my stats.... for me, and apparently the teams I am on.... when i have that particular module equipped.

Now, it is also about 2:1 when I use that module, it is to stack on top of a BAP in my particular case.

A good question for Russ would be, will this built in Cyclops sensor buff stack with the pilot module? BAP? Both?

The short answer to how is this sensor range beneficial against ECM is, it isn't- if you are trying to target lock things for LRM or otherwise. It is obviously useful for simple scouting and intel where even intermittent blips showing number of and direction pointed of red doritos can affect the herd(your own team) movements. I would attribute the biggest benefit is an early ability to adjust movment to counter the enemy. As we all know, position is pretty vital in this game, especially for pug teams.

Basically, if it stacks with BAP and the module, it would probably provide better intel, more safely, then a solo light mech trying to be sneaky.

I am not sure what more to expect from a built in, no cost benefit to the chassis. I mean even BAP that costs tonnage and slots only has a limited range for countering ECM. We could hardly ask for a freebie to be able to provide such a counter IMO.

If it were to do more, I would put other stuff like maybe a small % target decay or even go so far as missile lock time if we wanted to go all out, but thats about it.

But I mean, that glowing eye though- that's still really the important bit to make sure we get sorted out before it releases.

Oh and maybe to make sure the warhorn doesn;t play some wierd music instead of some ominous yardsale-esque gutteral tones as it should. Glowing orb eye, scary warhorn. Thats the important bits.

I do agree with the "nothing new sentiments", and we will be seeing much more of that as the game progresses, due to having so many mechs in game. Im attracted to its look to, especially that head.

I put the nothing new thing out there in my thread about it and apparently the fact that is can run fast is that new bit ppl are talking about -.-

hilarious that ppl bash on this kind of play because if you DONT do this you lose. EVERY TIME.

and in puggylandia, you see that A LOOOOT. The only games where you even have a CHANCE is if you get herd the cats in some kind of semblance of order

well that is the point really- my stats show the sensor range is beneficial to the cat herding. it's one of those things has has a subtle influence on the match vs something like say bringing a TAG on your LRM mech.

If MWO had ended up with the artists from MW:Tactics this game would have gone under already. It really boggles my mind how many people are willing to happily hand over money for mechs that are redundant, bring nothing new to the game, and (in some cases), not even good just because the art is pretty.

Like most mechs in BT.. redundant, and something else can do whatever mech better... I personally will just get it cause it looks weird and interesting. Will it be meh? yea, most likely but whatever thats my problem, people will buy what they like.

I was trying to figure out if the 150m was the extra range or if it was the 'buff' range to other mechs.

Both

Really?. Because at the end of the day spending irl money on a pile of electrons makes sense in the first place?

I really don't care at all if it brings nothing new to the table... the cyclops has, for some strange reason, always been one of my favorite mechs. Most likely because of the artwork in the first technical readout that it was in (sorry, can't remember what year... I'm not *that* nerdy). It's a silly reason, I know, but still a valid one. PGI will be taking my money. Gratz, guys.

What I don't get are all the calls of "this 'Mech brings nothing new."

Piranha invented a battle computer specifically so that the Cyclops would have something no other 'Mech did, to back up its lore role as an electronics-heavy command platform. Even if all it offers is a 15% sensor range boost...c'mon. It's pretty frickin' cool that they did that, and it's a much better solution than "Cyclops, all variants: +15% sensor range boost" in the quirks list. Sure, it's basically a quirk with a funky name and a physical presence on the 'Mech - but how does that not make it better?

Credit where credit is due - who here actually expected the Cyclops to get anything remotely like its traditional command package in the game?

Well I haven't said it brings nothing.

I do ask if what it brings, in the ECM reality we play in, is enough to compensate for it being a quicker, weaker Atlas, or more accurately, a puffy, overweight ON1-K.

Because with the quantity of ECM we see now, and the rate it seems to be increasing, that extra sensor range may sound great on paper, but I just don't see it translating onto mattering a dang bit in actual play. I like it's potential, but I also don't want to read too much into that potential.

I'm not looking to influence anyone else's purchase decision. I'm personally on the fence, until we know more. ATM, it doesn't help that I am traditionally NOT a huge Assault guy. Honestly, the draw for me is the same as the Archer.... pure unadulterated Mech Porn. It is, IMO, the sexiest Assault Concept yet, even more so than the Kodiak. But I also learned from the Archer, not to project what I want because of how great it looks as translating to making it worth a crap to pilot.

right now.... it's a long wait, and just not sure I'm any better off than just waiting 4 more months for CBills. I'm hoping they fill in some more info before PreOrders end to help tip me one way or the other.

Lets face it, they just added 90 ton missile boats in...most people are gonna pack lots of LRUMS so the extra sensor range means you pick up people at around 900+ rather than 800 or so...toss in Bap and if you want the sensor range module and yeah, easy 1k+ target locks

This also is the first foot in the door for other lore-based mech component variations. Hopefully we see more of these!

I have my money on overweight orion. Not nearly enough energy hardpoints, and it doesnt look XL friendly, so no real good large pulse laser/medium laser/splat configs, and I doubt you can carry a lot of backup srm6es with an AC20/standard engine build....and you still wont have a lot of energy weapons to back it up as a brawler...be better off driving an atlas or banshee in that situation.

I will say the 10-Q with 6xLRM5, 3xLPL would kind of appeal to me. Sounds fun.

Problem being it would need either an XL, or to go slow with a 300 std.

While ECM would pose a serious hurdle to actually getting a lock in the first place, I think that if it acted like a target info module that was shared with nearby teammates it would make plenty of difference just from that secondary power alone. Alternatively, increasing the length of the "fast" scan distance along with the overall sensor range could achieve a similar effect.

Being able to target stuff from far away in a public match will help herd typical pugs (like me) in the right direction, but anyone who has a good pair of eyes and a mic is already able to do that. However, being able to know the target's damage status and weak points faster is something that cannot be replicated by player actions, so it would provide the Tacticon with something concrete to offer to every match.

90 tons 300 standard while isnt blazingly fast isnt that slow either, especially with tweak. all my maulers run 300 engines and I'm rarely left behind.

Oh boy.. Kinda torn. I feel like I want to buy this. However, I just got the sweet taste of Kodiak still lingering in my mouth. I like the hard points though. Might get the base $20 dollar pack with a hero add on.

This looks like a mech I can put all kinds of crazy load outs on. I like variety in my mechs.

Hmmmm.... Think I'll marinate on this for a week or two.
