Not sure how the Cyclops will be able to compete with the other IS Assaults. Cyclops will need Atlas level structure quirks in order to fulfill its primary goal which looks to be brawling based on all those missile hardpoints.

Basically Archer 2.0 with less energy and more ballistics.

I doubt it even really needs structure quirks, especially on the scale of an Atlas.

It looks like some variants could go the mauler route and be a 90 ton UAC5 boat and thus should have quirks similar to a mauler, yet weaker due to the Mauler being slower and lore reasons if anyone goes for those anymore.

The variant with 7 SRM launchers will be godly given a good build, high speed with a large XL and 6 ASRM6 launcher with a CT mounted ASRM4. You could even throw in a couple medium lasers if you felt you had enough ammo. If anything it seems more like a mech that could hit hard then move on like a heavy mech rather than committing to a brawl like an Atlas.

I haven't really looked much into variants other than those two at the moment, but those are what I think of them.

But hey, I'm also the guy who thought the original quirk pass on the Archers was fine too, and the guy who elited the Black Knights before they got their godly structure quirks, and I mostly play clan mechs with bad quirks anyway, so what do I know.

Mauler gets UAC jamming quirks, don't think Cyclops will get that lucky.

Cyclops will compete because it has potatotron 2000 to give it better sensors

I don't know why you think it is only a brawler. I can build almost anything with the available hardpoints.

Well, i wouldnt say that.. You cant run 4xUAC5 and an XL, and so the Mauler will run that better than the Cyclops due to better geometry - you cant even fit a 325STD and that build, so the engine cap means nothing there.

2 AC 5 and 2 UAC 5 runs really smooth - you don't need that second UAC5

Although a 400XL won't give you enough tonnage for ammunition....so again its 360XL at best

Quirkless, they are interesting but can't really "meta" with those ballistic and missile hardpoints on the torso. The hero can do 4x UAC/5 but PGI should give that specialty to Mauler with quirks (i.e. the MAL-MX90 should have superior quirks for UAC/5 and AC/5). Those energy hardpoints on the arms are just for flavor because they are low hanging. Atlas should still be the king at brawling.

The only interesting variant is the CP-10-Q with those 7M hardpoints. But I think it will be just okay.

Once again, it's assumed that it has no quirk.

Cyclops looks like a solid DOA material: no shield arms, big engine cap but not capable to use big XL engines because of exposed STs, low weapon mounts etc. Can't say I'm not glad that PGI actually didn't turn it into fast energy boat, it is supposed to be long range mech, an lrm boat or a sniper, sadly both types of mechs are overnerfed.

Hero variant is probably an exception, fast daka boat is something new.

Structure quirks are guaranteed, considering its protruding CT. It doesn't show in the art but Cyclops also has a protruding rear torso as well. With such crap hitboxes, PGI most likely will give it some durability quirks.

Worked that out. Crit slots are a bit of a problem, you can only fit 9 tons of ammo before running out of slots, but it should be a good build

Fake Sleipnir

STD310 is the same tonnage as an XL380. Subtract 8 slots due to 6 from XL engine and 2 from hand actuators leaves 0 slots remainging (though space for 5 DHS in engine - could drop engine size for heatsinks, if you wanted)

That Hero variant is pretty much mandatory, barring quirks. Could be the most valuable Hero so far.

It'll be interesting to see it's in game model. The torsos look like they're going to be pretty vulnerable. The arms also look like they're not doing much to spread DMG.

It's going to need some fairly strong quirks to make it good/decent.

Wow is that really the best the Hero Cyclops can do? Is 2x UAC5 and 2x LPL a viable build?

Is this one better? Posted Image
The MLP would go into the head.

And because it will be hated: the CP-10-Q

Endo steel structure
Max. Standard armor
400XL +3 DHS
7x LRM 5 with 12,5 tonns ammo
2x MPL, one per arm
and a Tag in the right torso

Should equal to 90 tonns, didn't bother to do the math on the slots...

The big question for me is the hitboxes. It has a protruding CT - not as bad as the Dragon, but worse than the Black Knight. If PGI gives it Mauler-like terrible torso twist, then shielding the CT is going to be impossibru!

In the long run, they may give it some Highlander-level structure quirks to compensate for the exposed CT. But I wouldn't be surprised if it had the same initial trouble as the Black Knight did. Weeks and weeks with nothing but death by CT.

But yeah, Cyclops will be a fast brawler, for sure. No way it can beat the Mauler in an extended long range engagement, except maybe the dual gauss hero, if the hardpoints are high enough.

yeah if you drop a 27.5 ton engine in it, practically 1/3rd it's tonnage to go 55. be better off running a 300 and going 54 and getting another 2.5 tons or can get an XL 380 for that tonnage

I literally LOL'd over this for like 2 minutes.

Edit: make that 3 minutes.
