Phase 3 continues to build depth outside of matches, inside a match, it is the same old game of "sit on this spot" and "kill everyone with meta builds and twitching the right way". PGI appears to only be adding "depth" *outside* of matches and using matches like dice rolls in a RPG. We really want depth *inside* the match.

Even the free mod Mechwarrior Living Legends had repairs, in-MATCH economy not to mention combined arms. That was a free mod. I continue to be amazed at the lack of depth INSIDE A MATCH for commercial title. Still, years after I was forced off of MWLL to MWO, it is just "run here", "kill these guys with whatever the current OP meta build is". I percieve there is nothing new to do INSIDE the game, it is the same 15-minute twitch-fest is started as.

Please add more things to do inside the match, to most of us the game is the match and it hasn't changed in years (except for the first CW phase, at least that gave us some doors to open), no matter how much "spreadsheet game" you add to that CW map nobody gives a rip about. It's like the guys that know how to code in the 3D levels quit and now all they have is 2D interface developers. The guy in charge of this game wants to build a tabletop RPG around matches instead of adding more things to do IN THE GAME.

Thanks,

-GP

I have to agree with OP but I also have to say that CW adds something more interesting to the game. Something larger scale and feeling of being part of something bigger. The actual gameplay is still the same "teamdeathmatch" type game almost every time.

I have to agree with God Particle. Since 2012 I have literally been playing the same thing over and over again and we have all been waiting for Phase 3. Russ kept it all hush hush, and we have recieved little more than a nicer looking UI in CW and that is about it. Then this Long Tom thing has been added to completely screw stuff up ontop of it. There is nothing new that has been added, not even a new map. CW has not had any depth or anything new even added to it inside the game really. It has been incredibly minimal. A couple of regular people were able to make the mod MW:LL and here PGI is with an entire team at their disposal and they can barely seem to do much of anything. If you ask me PGI needs to find the guys that coded MW:LL and hire them because they actually did something right.

In re P3: I love the fact that on Russ's twitter feed it is a screen of "scout mode rocks!" & "patch is awesome!" type comments, followed by his own regarding a "triage meeting...to FP in a hot fix".

He may use twitter for an echo chamber of positivity, but obviously at least some of the criticisms are getting through. I'd hope for the best, but...

Real depth in CW will only happen once PGI implements something past destroying the orbital gun mode. Scouting is definitely something they had to add but unfortunately it should have been implemented along with phase 1 of CW and not after. As far as I'm concerned they are at least 1 year behind where they should be in CW.

At least they kept the whole "wait 20 minutes for a ghost drop" dynamic. That's the best part of the game.

Now, if only they'd start paying us for every time we get transferred or end up waiting forever to drop without an enemy. THAT would be awesome.

<sarcasm>Yes! That ghost drop mechanic is awesome!</sarcasm>

I would say that at least the long tom IS a new thing inside the real game (instead of a new thing in the menus, as CW has been). I'm sorry, but scout mode is not a new game, it is a very minimal take on the same old game with no fundamentally new things to do in game.

It's not that I disagree with the changes to CW, I'm just disappointed that PGI seems to be avoiding adding new things to do IN THE GAME and just keep increasing the complexity of the wrapper around the game that frankly reduces the new mechanics to just automated gaming by spreadsheet pen and paper.

Specific examples were shown to us all over 5 years ago with Mechwarrior Living Legends like in-game repairs/rearm, a in-game economy, more types of vehicles/battlearmor, these constitute new things to do in game and depth, not adding some stat to that already ridiculously obtuse CW spreadsheet that feels like a attempt to dress up a arcade game. I agree they should hire or at least consult with the MWLL Wandering Samurai guys, those guys seemed to be able to add things to there actual game instead of wrapping the game in a over-complicated 2D spreadsheet/map.

They are at least 2 years behind (i.e. 90 days after release Posted Image).
