Despite my obsession with the Hatchetman, I have a lot of love for the Cyclops: really looking forward to this one. Not sure how I'll run it, but probably won't be with an XL - in my experience, XLs on anything heavier than around 60 tons is a deathwish (sans Hopper).

After seeing the "modeling" image from crimson strait that is rolling on the main page scroll i'm actually debating an xl or not, the ct looking really defined and easy to see hit so runing xl might not be that bad due to being easily ct cored. but again this is all theory cause we haven't seen much for the mech yet, not even spoiler photos with all the hardpoints occupied like with the kodiak

CP 10-Q: 1 LRM-5 (CT); 3 LRM 10's (R/LT). Enough said.

I haven't seen that one, yet, but the job of an Assault is generally to tank damage. Of course, the Banshee can run an XL and pour out the damage, so who knows? It might work.

4 uac5, 1 mlas, 10 tons ammo, std 300. Mauler copy paste but with head laser. 10/10.
2 ac5, 2 uac5, 1mlas, xl 375, 10 tons combined ammo. Basically faster mauler with head laser. 10/10.
6 srm6+A, 9 tons ammo, 17 dhs, xl395. Faster better stalker 5m or splatcat. 10/10.
2 lgpls, 2 uac5, 5 tons ammo, 15dhs, xl375, ecm. Faster better highlander with ecm. 10/10.
5lgpls, 20 dhs, xl360/365. BMMU Banshee but with lower mounts, still great. 8/10.
3 ac5, 3mlas, std 325-340 OR 3ac5, 3 srm4, std 325. One copies banshee 3m but arguably is better, other copies a mauler build of mine but arguably better. 7/10-10/10 depending on cooldown quirks.
4 srm4+A, ac20, 4 tons ac20 ammo, 5 tons srm 4 ammo, std340, 13 dhs. Atlas S but faster. 8/10.

Cyclops is going to be beast. Even though it looks way fatter than the art portrayed it.

The only one I'm interested in is the ECM one. :3

Naa, I’ll look how much I like the the standard pack ones and then I’ll think about the rest.
Probably I’ll get the Sleipnir one day, but not before 18th Oct., since spending more money now doesn’t count for the loyality stuff anyway. ^^

So how do you feel about the expansion pack variants having better quirks than the standard ones?
And that of all variants two are quirked for Gauss?

I know dual-gauss or quad-UAC will likely be the dominant builds, but I kind of want to run the Slepnir with 2 LBXs an SRM 6 in the CT just for the giggles and maximum SPLAT.

Something like this...

Me too, but max splat with only one missile slot? And LL instead?
What you could do, is trying triple or quad LBX. But they are quite heavy and you won’t even have the option for an XL to compensate. In the worst case you’ll end up fast a Direwolf. So idk.

Tbh, I don’t like at all that both, the 11-A and the hero are quirked for Gauss. On one hand, I don’t buy a hero to do boring long range builds. It would be OK on the regular variant though, but: I don’t like sticking a single Gauss in an Assault. It’s OK on a Medium or lighter Heavy, but if one takes Assaults with Gauss, there should be two to make it count. One cannot fit two in the 11-A…

The crit chance reduction quirk on the hero is only pushing me further to do what I've wanted to do since the Cyclops announcement: mount dual gauss rifles with an XL engine. I was hesitant to nestle two explosions right up against my engine cause that seemed to always get me when I tried it on the Mauler but this'll do. Now all I want to see is that an XL isn't a horrible idea in this thing.
