One Shot Kill - And Your Story

But now I've become the monster i have fought against my whole MWO / Forum career.
I have killed another Mech with cold blood and the pressing of the Alpha key. (its the 5 on my keyboard)
AS7-S
Before i did run 4 MPLAS and 4 SRM6 - but i recognized that less alpha damage but more sustained fire and reduced spread as well as some capability at range could be helpful.
- well how did it happen:
It was Grim Plexus Assault - Charlie Lance.... while the other three guys did take the long route (B3 C3...i was as fast as the first medium mechs from the other lances at our base.
Guys started sniping - nothing i wanted to do with a Atlas - you are big target and you don't have good sniper mounts... so i started to close the distance... i got some long-medium range fire but finally i was in the trench below the enemy position. (played the map for my 3rd time) but i recognized another wall of obstacles at the enemys left flank - so i moved there alone and exposed - it did last only some 30-40seconds but in the end i was in the rear - left flank of the enemy position.
And there she was a StormCrow. Sniping with Large Laser and playing peakaboo... oblivious to the fact that 100t fury and rage were behind.
I closed the distance from 150-90m - a single press on the button and it was over.... 71 dmg at point blank in the CTR of a medium Mech.
Was somehow a pitty that a friendly light was at my flank only seconds after.... his small laser shoots warned a MAD so he started to turn before i could aim another salvo. Anyhow....in the middle of the enemy formation - and i still had the time to core the MAD in face to face shooting.
Two solo kills - and my very first One Shot.
Oh i've killed a lot guys in very fast succession during closed beta.... even executed 3 Mechs - on river city in 8sec using my AS7-D at this time. But even those doesn't count as One Shot. Because two large laser and a Gauss - are hardly a One Shot.
But now I'm curious about your storys - even when you become prey to a one shot.

I lost a bet with some friends, so they dared me to go with the silliest possible build on a Kit Fox.
LRM75. On a KFX. No armour, only one ton of ammo. Light lance went wolfpacking on Bog, so I was sort of obliged to follow them regardless. Fell behind due to low speed.
Lo and behold. A lone, unwary LCT-1E with its back turned to me, too busy looking at my team brawling it out with the enemy team. I lock on, and fired 75 LRMs at 180m. Locust could not react quickly enough. 75 LRMs into rear; instagibbed.

one was a while back, I was in something with an ac20- might have been the loyalty cent on alpine. trying to get up to the top of "the hill" almost there when suddenly an enemy locust appears in front of me going full speed from the other side of one of those little hillocks at the top . while screaming like a little girl at the sudden enemy mech appearing out of the blue, I alpha and poof goes the locust to my first headshot kill since the achievement was put in months earlier. I think I have maybe two more since then. locust corpse just kinda went on past me and slid down to the bottom of the hill.
last one was more recent. in a wolverine 7K i think,3MPL 2 SRM 6s, on polar. during the traditional "everyone starts firing LRMs at each other while slowly drifting to their right" ceremonial dance common to polar dwellers I notice a stream of clan LRMs off by itself behind the rest of the LRM mechs, so I think "execute supreme ultra flanking maneuver!" fortunately i'm going in the 90s so it doesn't take that long to sneak through all the little sheltered path and get behind the LRMcrow who still doesn't notice me. get to about 50m away- full alpha- dead crow.

Somehow, I managed to put a Gauss slug into one of his rear torsos and that was enough to take him out. It's possible I was running double Gauss at the time, since otherwise it would had to have been a crit or 0 rear armor situation. Anyway, it was a complete luck shot with a hilariously unexpected outcome.

A couple of recent examples:
I was on Viridian defending against NASCAR around the c4 Mesa.
We had enough people who turned so I decide to push the heavy enemy mechs near the lobster shell between the two mesas.
First I took down an Atlas or something large like that. His teammates, a catapult and I think a Jager see this and sees me and others heading straight for them and panic.
They turned their backs and started outright running for it. I'm now right behind them about 300m away. I hit coolant dump and flush my heat bar to zero, then putout two consecutive alohas.
First alpha gets the cat, second kills the Jager.
2nd time, I'm on canyons fighting bear theta. Fresh enemy cBK walks up the c3 ramp looks directly at me. I put my cursor on the top part of his storm trooper visor, lock arms, click, dead. Headshot.
3rd time, frozen city night, at round start kid on other team ask if this is actually tier1. I make snide reply. Then round starts and it's a great fight. My team was remarkably coordinated (like serious, better than 12 man VoIP comms going on the while match) and we start beating them back. They retreat to their side if dropship and we are pushing. I get a minor laser burn on my right, sees ecm disruption on my tacmap and blip up the hill to my right on seismic. I turn right, walk straight up the hill and nearly collided with an Arctic cheetah.
The little guy is looking straight up at me, not moving, frozen in surprise. I click, full alpha to the face, his CT explodes.
I look at the kill message, it was the poor kid asking about t1 at round start. He probably just made t3. I felt genuinely terrible.
(On the next map I oneshotted him again)

My Lance gets to the center late and their team is already shooting across the ring at my teammates who entered from the other entrance.
I see a marauder looking dangerous, took careful aim and put a pair of Gauss rounds straight into its cockpit.
His cockpit is now tomato red. His pilot is practically sitting up there in his skivvies on a lawn chair. I tell my whole team over VoIP: marauder headshot, any strike, any graze of the cockpit will kill him.
On bearclaw's stream i hear (it was on a delay): "Did that guy just headshot me?"
Yes, I did, but he lived! He actually outlived most of his team. Fighting for another good 5min. When he finally died, it was to a headshot, so I guess my effort was not wasted.

Got a scouting bonus for spotting an enemy raven. He was just under 600m out. I could not make him out as the map was pitch black.
I double tapped the UAC10s into the red rectangle and BOOM: headshot!
Also: had a good one yesterday while playing Invasion against an un-named Davion unit..
A lone Locust decided to run right up to the gate and made a complete stop. One click later there were locust bits all over our gate. Poor bastid.

I was AFK in a BK one game on Frozen City since I left to make some coffee.
I got back just in time to see a clutch of lights running straight at me (I spawned at the assault lance spawn near B4). First was a locust. One click later and his body tumbled past me. The timing was so perfect I hardly had to move my mouse.
His buddies managed to take me down, but not before I grievously wounded them and cost them the match.
Edit: I should add that the locust was then drowned in salt by his teammates for being an alleged moron.

Took me a good second to realise that this was not an ally (Blue doritos everywhere on that side). Proceed to unload SRM24 into back of unwary Locust. Instagibbed.

3 notable ones.
my best kill ever: a damaged jenner in frozen city, i saw him come up the ramp and he dove below the terrain to come up near me and presumably get to my back, but i timed his movement just right and let rip a cloud of SRMS with my aws8r honeybadger which obliterated him in one shot i made before he even turned the corner.
when he was out of the corner the srms were already in his face. that poor *******. jenner i salute you. my finest kill i havent been able to repeat it in like 2.5 years or so - it's not even possible to make the same shot anymore because SRMS fly faster in the current build. when i made that shot the srms were SLOOOW not so much faster than the jenner itself, so the shot had to be done with much anticipation of where the jenner would pop up
2nd.
shoot a moving spider in alpine peaks with my 2xerppc with my nimble arm hardpoints, hit him in the cockpit! lol.
cockpit kill a full speed spider at long range.
3rd. just yesterday, in polar highlands the whole team was shooting a light mech and i was behind, and i use the same arm 2xerppc and kill the light mech also moving from long range, who none of my team mates could hit at close range.
my shot literally went between 3-4 of my allies to hit the enemy light in the sidetorso for an xl kill at 700+ meters
all my most memorable one shot kills are from the honey badger, but it makes sense because i use the honey badger as a very efficient light mech hunter
it's 4xsrm6 and 2xerppc

1: a few minutes into the game I'm busy poking enemy mechs from D4ish area. When suddenly I noticed a new blip to my left on the tac map. It was a LRM Jenner trying to sneak behind me from some free shots. Fortunately teammate locked him. I turned around and waited for him as his icon came around the corner. As soon as he did, his CT was vaporized by a full 60 pt alpha.
2. after about another minute, my CT is now crit orange. I'm walking around super paranoid trying to survive and put in some damage. I try to climb up a ridge trail and fail. In frustration, I turned back towards my previous sniping position, where I got seriously focused fired. As I'm walking towards it, lo and behold, a shadowcat walks around the corner (probably planning to shoot me in the back). I fire another alpha. He drops where he stood, marking my 2nd kill of the game.

How you ask?
Well I often play an erppc Gauss Timby. On HPG, one of the tactics I use is to walk diagonally up the ramp, then cut the corner using my jump jets so that my ppcs just barely clear the top platform, at which point I fire and drop immediately.
So this particular game there were 3 for 4 enemy mechs standing under the antenna dish. I get up to my old tricks.
First time up, shot goes of clean, they don't even know what hit them. 2nd time up, half hearted return fire, miss me completely. 3rd time up, shots bounce off the platform rim. 4th time.. I INSTASPLODED.
Turns out the whole lot of them had turned my way, timed my hop, and alphaed me in synchrony.
Didn't know that could happen in qp. Oops.

On Alpine. Enemy Highlander was on the ridge of shame staring down at us and raining lurms. He did not move an INCH.
So I took my HunchyIIC w/ dual goose rifles and POOF. No more highlander head!

Old River City.
Commando, running between buildings across my line of sight, what fighter pilots would call a full deflection shot.
I'm in my Wang, running across the water I judge when he's going to arrive at the gap in the buildings and let go with an AC20 slug, which he runs smack back into.
Perfect head shot !

The moral of the story is to NEVER assume that the guy who just downed you is a pro, because chances are; it was just a lucky shot and he just thought that your mech was ready to pop.
