Fraction Warfare

Create more fractures within a small population. Make it so no games are ever played.

That is indeed how it feels.

False.

Being tagless indicates an unwillingness to join a unit and nothing more.

Many unit "tagged" players are actually just solo players with a 1-man unit.

Ill have to chime in here. Mischief wrote about 2 conditions fro his theory.

Being tagless and only wanting to play in the solo queue indicates an unwillingness to play with or against teams.

I have to agree with him there. As you wrote, tagless means not wanting to/able to comitting to a unit. That is never a problem in itself, however if you combine it with only wanting to play solo queue without teams with or against him/her, then it really does hint that this player doesnt want to have anything to do with working as a team with the other 11 players he/she is dropping with.
That being said, having a tag or not is in no way an indication of player quality. Tagless players are sometimes absolutely great and work perfectly together with the rest of the players and tagged players are sometimes so bad that calling them a potato is an insult even to the burnt crisps forgotten in a fast food restaurant deep fat frier.

We had one of those last night... was out of the game after 10 minutes while the rest of the team was gathering for the second push and everyone else had 2 mechs left in the dropship. End screen showed a wopping 77 damage over all 4 of those mechs. If I would have the choice. I would gladly get rid of bandwidth wastes such as that player and take any steam newb willing to play together with the team and learn (We have a few of them in our unit). Even if they end up with the same 77 damage at the end of the match,;we know they were with the team, were taking damage with the rest of us and they are willing to learn for the future to improve the damage. Those 77 damage will soon be 200, 500, 700, 1000 and so on as soon as they learnt the mechanics of the game and what they should look out for (weapon range, positioning and so on).
In the end. it doesnt matter if the players have a tag or not. If you are willing to play with the other 11 players on your team you are completely welcome by any unit (no matter if you want to join or not) to play with them. Damage scores are secondary as long as you are willing to learn. If you want to play solo, ignore the rest of your team, do your own thing... then please stick to the training- or the testing grounds until you are willing to listen, look and learn.

That's simply not true.

There are many reasons other than not wanting to work with a team for which a player might prefer the Solo Queue over the Group/Unit.

Some that come to mind are:
  • Wanting to avoid facing large coordinated units.
  • Not feeling comfortable counting on the teamwork ability of others and trying to increase the likelihood that the opposing team is equally derpy.
  • Wanting to avoid playing with unwelcoming tryhards.
  • Wishing to avoid the condescension of said tryhards.
All of these reasons have nothing to do with a player's intention or ability to work with a team.

This game does have more twats per capita of any game I've played in the past ten years. MW4 people were generally cool and helpful. I find it somewhat odd that this community differs from that one so much.

I'd imagine those without thick skin would be put off by the general abrasiveness of many players in this community. They'll talk **** to you in coms for no valid reason, just talking **** for the sake of talking ****.

At least the community is large enough that you probably won't see the same person multiple times in the same day.. or, hell, even the same week.

-----edit-----

Apparently, these juvenile forum filters won't let me say the word used to label a son with no father, but I can call people twats all day.

You know.. I don't understand, why it is such a big problem for PGI this "unit players in solo" stuff..

Russ don't want unit-sync-drops in solo (I don't want it either), because it is unfair, OP and such... But does it means, "no unit members is solo"!!.. Really???

PGI just should build in a simple tag-filter in the solo MM.. When during the team building process, the solo MM see 2 players with the same unit tag in one team, it just should kick one player toward the next match.. Done! No more unfairness, just pure PUG vs PUG...

Or better yet, just add a checkbox "Group Play FW" and let people who are not in groups select it. If I want to be filler on group queue, it lets me do that, but also allows me to goof around in Public FW.

With "Currently in a group" vs. "Not in a group", syncdropping becomes a really big problem.

With the uncommitted solo group, it becomes less of an issue. Unfortunately, we'll be right where we are now, with nobody in queue. Both suck. If they can do something about syncdropping, I'll change my vote.

I was excited for solo que in faction play untill I realized I couldnt do it because I'm in a unit that is mostly quick play. I love my unit too much to quit them for solo que so no faction play for me. Wish it was otherwise but as is it's been a huge disapointment.
