It's less about lights having less firepower, and more about light having less firepower, and no alternative loadout.

Oxides and J2Cs are still perfectly happy with this arrangement; in fact they now have less to fear from other lights. So you traded laser lights for spread burst damage lights.

Whereas things that can actually take heavier weapons, will, or take longer ranged weapons to make up for it.

I can't tell if you're serious or not. Is a short ranged, DoT, Spread Alpha really that scary?

Stand in front of it and decide for yourself.

BT Fusion engines have essentially unlimited power production. What limits them is heat - higher power draw spikes your reactor heat. That's why energy weapons are generally hot, while ballistics and missiles typically aren't. Thus, MWO already has a power draw mechanic, since the more power you draw the higher your heat goes.

Technically, in a novel, it was remarked that Gauss Rifles draw a lot of energy from the reactor and you have to wait a few seconds before you can fire additional weapons or another Gauss Rifle which hints that they have a high but not unlimited power production.

Bro do you even Meta?

No, I don't meta because I find it boring as all F***.

Besides, you try to alpha that thing and the AC20s alone will shut your butt down.

Right. It requires me to be standing in front of it.

The one scenario where the XL assault is in optimal range to unload on me, and I can't do anything, requires me to either be outmaneuvered by an XL300 KGC at close range, or I mistakenly run into one.

Both of which sound perfectly fair.

Because lazors are simply the easiest to use and most forgiving weapons in the game. Obviously on the surface that's not a bad thing, but when they end up used 90% of the time over every other weapon system in the game, there's a problem somewhere that needs to be addressed. And quickly.

Ever played an AC40 Crab? You get 4 Alphas before approaching shutdown... So that thing can alpha everything at least once ;).

I'm sorry, 100 point damage alpha strikes? What freak of a mech is capable of that much damage?

That much damage would instantly destroy 90% of my mechs, the exception being my Atlas and Dire Wolves.

well take this in to consideration
my primary storm crow build has an alpha of 72 and can fire it 2.5 times if staggered for ghost heat
my alternative has an alpha of 96 and can fire it twice, if staggered for ghost heat
my timber wolf has an alpha of 86 and can do it a mind ******* 3 times if staggered for ghost heat

longer ranged mechs have it lower , but even those mechs can get around 60 - 70 just from lazer vomit

when people say alpha it doesn’t mean they need to fire everything at once a bunch of these kind of weapons have short fire durations specifically so they can befired in rapid succession.

so in the case that hilarious crab it would have been 1 , then 2 with the ac20 then alpha with the lasers and srms
