Now, for someone who is totally against arbitrary mechanics like No DMG Min Range on PPCs and IS Lrms, this is a bit much to bear. Is this true? Did they introduce this while I was away (for 3 months)?
And I was literally about to give PGI more money for the progress they have made with CW Phase 3 etc..
Tell me it's not true. Please..
I don't even wanna test it myself. Just.. tell me.. it's a mistake!

180 is for FULL damage
reduced Damage as the range decreases

So at 179m they deal almost as much damage as on 180
while at 0m they deal 0dmg
same as the PPC minimum range before the heat nerf and mech damage at 100% and before ghost heat - (they have nerfed the PPC so much? )

I've been in the SCR's position a couple of times. Not as an LRM boat, but with having any LRMs on board.
I think about if I should fire or not and always come to the conclusion that it still makes sense to do so:
- I probably gonna die and even if not, i'd rather run out of ammo than ending the match with unused ammo
- little effect is better than no effect, so even it 100 missiles only deal 1 damage, i'd still do it in a desperate situation. I don't exactely know the crit chance situation in this case. Maybe a 0.01 damage missile can still score a crit.
- The hailing and jingling might stress out the enemy pilot. At least a little. Or he might get distracted from laughing his a$$ off about my puny efforts. Whatever works.

(And other good stuff)
I've been in that position too, and I, like you, am of a mind to keep fighting no matter what. A little extra damage might mean a lucky kill, a shaved off component and at the very least a few extra C-bills, amirite? I was just speaking to the little to no damage CLRMs do to very close targets and to briefly talk about a SCR build I've never seen before. LRMCrow? That's a new one to me.

Sometimes you get lucky.

Weapons do full crit damage, no matter how much damage the hit for. So an AC10 firing just shy of its absolute maximum range and hitting for .1 damage is still going to do 0-3 10 damage crits to equipment (potentially destroying 3 separate items) AND doing up to 4.5 additional structure damage due to the 15% carry through.
Knowing how crits work can be very valuable.
Also, in the case of the lrms in particular, you're still shaking his cockpit and degrading his aim, potentially buying yourself more time.

IMO LRMs should do kinetic damage (increasing linearly as they accelerate) up to 180m where they arm and do full damage. Kinetic damage, even at 179m, should be dramatically lower than full explosive damage.
