I could never get the hang of the Dual Gauss build. Seems like Id always miss with one of the shots. Which meant less pop.

I have seen some brutal youtubes of people wrecking with the build... Perhaps I should give it another go.

Put an Atlas againts at Dire both with equal and good pilots and the Dire will win the majority.

Dires are for killing other Dires or assaults. Not lights.

Because you are getting beat in pug play with no coordination to protect your back while you push does not mean whales are broken or need buffs.

An Atlas or any slow assault has the same problem. Mechs have roles where they fit better. Dires are no exception.

Seems to me that its role does not fit your play style. Maybe try and Executioner if you are set on clan or Banshee/Battlemaster for IS.

EVERYONE craps themselves when they run around a corner and face a whale. No other mech has the same effect. Splat'Atlas is close and so is Mauler but just not the same fear IMO.


I'll take that challenge... Come at me bro! I fear no Direwolf in my Atlas.

An Atlas can spread it's damage by torso twisting. Something a Dire can't do.

Direwolf doesn't need changing. Well, maybe, maybe, a very small buff to CT internals. It fits its intended niche: the most firepower on the battlefield but terrible manoeuvrability and not the most durable of assault mechs (that badge should always go to the Atlas).

As for builds, there's the classic 5/6 x U/AC-5 build or the slightly better 3x U/AC5 + 2x U/AC/10 build, the 2x CGauss + 2ER-PPC build which was the meta for a while. Tons of LPL variations. Like most slow assault mechs, just don't put LRMs on them.

I've been playing a few hours tonight and got two 1k+ damage games. That's not exactly par for me though, but still, you get the point. It's extremely strong.

the DWF can be good in some Builds but if your not Bringing ether 2Gauss, or 5AC5, or 2AC5+2AC10,
then your mostly dead in the water, the DWF will Run too Hot to Run Pure Energy, Ballistics are a necessity,
the DWF like so many other Clan Mechs are Forced into only a Few Builds, nothing else is Viable,
