Are they viable? I realize theres always a risk with XLs, but is an enforcer a bad mech for it? I want to run the ac 20 and 4 ml combo, and get the biggest XL i can fit for speed. I wanna be able to be in and out in a flash, delivering a massive punch and getting back into cover before the enemy can respond. Also... is there a web site that allows you to view mech hitboxes?

XL ENFs are great builds. But don't take my word for it; judge for yourself:

9 kills, 1309 damage match (Sorry, audio was buggy and did not record buddies' comms):

1,111 damage and 3 kills:

2 Kills, 990 damage:

I have some more vids floating around somewhere of my 4xML + 1xAC/20 XL ENF kicking butt too, but I can't remember whee they're stashed. Long story short, the XL ENF is a frightening little beast.

Most good ENF builds run XL. They have good hitboxes.

To differentiate and give a sense of "flavor" I run enforcers with XL and centurions with stds. The fact that the Enforcer's profile lets them get away with XLs better sure helps.

Do a google search for mwo hitbox guide,. You will find the thread...it is stickied here somewhere.

Found it: http://mwomercs.com/...x-localization/

The Enforcer is a good XL chassis. I wouldn't worry about running an XL.

The Enforcer chassis is very XL friendly. Go for it and don't give it a second thought.

Enf is very viable with XL, and you want XL for any of the ballistic loadouts.

For lasers, there are a few niche cases where you can run a STD for some extra tankyness - but its more of an option.

tl;dr
ENF w/ XL = very viable
ENF w/ STD = exceptionally rugged

I love shooting Enforcers with XL engines. They're 50 tons and they like to carry dual UAC5s or some other heavy armament, which is basically like carrying a big red flag that reads "XL ENGINE". And then I don't have to worry about their CT anymore :)

Put an XL in everything but Stalkers. Just because it makes life more fun.

Just by running it as a striker type keeps you moving and swerving enough that you roll damage almost without trying. It rocks an XL very well.

75% or more of IS medium builds in this game have XL....

So you should be going for ST 75% of the time IMO and at that rate just shoot ST on Mediums, the only ones that are a exception to the rule are Hunchies for the most part.

Unfortunately, the 4R is the best variant and has a 260 engine cap, so that won't work on every build.

Yep, unless you're sure "gun ST" on an IS medium is a good rule.

I wouldn't trust XL on it myself, it's just too large to safely mount it. Mechs like the BlackJack and Crab are in comparison way more XL safe, for a reason.

there is no reason not to run XLs in most IS mediums. You are simply too slow and lack firepower to effectively help your team.

ENF and BJ are about the same size, id wager to say the ST hitbox is almost identical....

BJ being slightly smaller, no head sticking above it shoulders. But its certainly wider.

The Blackjack is much more vulnerable with an XL than the Enforcer since the Blackjacks arms offer no protection of the side torso. The Enforcer can be very tanky with an XL and I run one on all of my builds.

Never put XL engine on IS mech.

Let the clanners run their XLs, you're Inner Sphere, so stick to the STD engines.

-- EDIT: I had hoped people would realize this is a jab at all the people saying that there is only one choice: the XL engine (the whole Clanner line, lore and stuff you know).

Anyway that ended up not being the case, so I am adding this edit here.

My preference is in STD engines, I run my Enforcers with them. You are welcome to your preference and opinion on this matter.
