You won't be stuck with just the Clan mechs if you're Clan-you can pick any.
Meanwhile, with a good team, you can have the Invasion section of the competition finished up within 3-4 days at most.

You can choose which ever mech you like, assuming its like the prizes in former events o7

1. I have played for about 3 hours now and have yet to have an invasion drop even be available, whether attacking or defending. Not sure why that is? Only scouting game mode is available currently.
2. Scouting and getting a win with an 80 match score is a bit of joke. Yes most matches I am well over 80 match score win or lose, but several times, 3 of my victories so far, (I have only played a total of 10 matches and have 6 total wins) no one on the team has had over a 50 match score. If done right - gather intel and escape with minimal enemy contact it is impossible for anyone on your team to achieve the necessary match score for the game to count towards the 30 victory goal. Which sucks considering how long it will take to get 30 victories for the required for that goal.
Those two items for me will make it almost impossible to achieve all the goals for this event, which is kind of disappointing. Especially the fact that no invasion drops are even available to me. I can live with the fact that an 80 match score is not always possible in scout mode if you never engage the enemy because they are probably trying to avoid people camping the rewards. But still if you play scout perfectly or verse a bad team you will never get that score, which seems like flaw in the game mode to me.
Edit: Finally got my first attack drop available. Invasion time! LOL
Edit: Not so much. 20 minute later still transferring pilots and never dropped. Don't have that kind of time to just sit and look at the match screen after all 12 slots are filled.

The only solutions:
1 - don't accept mission if the enemy has orbital strike or
2 - if you are in a mission and the enemy has the Long Tom:
- always SPREAD when the orbital strike is online;
- if possibile run straight in the face of the enemy, Long Tom kills also the reds...

I've spent more time WAITING for fights than actually fighting. One attack planet locked up solid red, yet our side has nearly 3x ppl in queue vs enemy on it & 3 defenses. How...
PGI needs to make population numbers more visible, or limit how many n00bs flood the faction transfer gates when a large unit switches.

Its incredible that people havent figured that out. Simple counter, its all about orders and timing though.

I have had to scout the entire day. Of the two invasion matches I was actually able join the queue for, the first had 12 players in it and all were set to Transferring Pilot and Mechs. After 20 minutes with no change at all, I cancelled out of that match.
Then I scouted for another couple hours, and finally got another invasion match to join (an attack).
Another tremendously long queue with all twelve pilots joined and set to Transferring Pilots and Mechs for all. Waiting in that queue, after about 10 minutes a global cease fire kicked me out.
This game is seriously broken if you cannot get into 1 invasion FW match in 6 hours of straight play on an event weekend.
I am to the point now where I will just scout in FW and not even bother with the other portion of the event. Invasion is a complete waste of time right now.

Anyway, readig all about the Stormcrowtrooper issue and figured it was a bunch of crying. Jumped into Davion vs Clan Scout match. Got obliterated by SRMcrows. Repeat 4-5 times. Finally drop with 3 member of a Unit. Very well coordinated, using mics, seemingly solid tactics. We focused down one Streakcrow who'd overextended, only to get deathballed by the other three in the space of about 40 seconds.
The butthurt is real and I hate to admit I'm on that bandwagon too now. So, sorry Liao and IS allies, looks like I'm going to limit my Scouting to IS vs IS for the forseeable future.

The thing that got me was just how consistent it is. I tried Griffin with SRMs, Hunchbacks, Cicadas, and even my Pirate's Bane (hoping the speed plus ECM might let me pull off a points based win), but nothing worked out.
And it wasn't just Streakcrows, the shotgun style SRM loadouts were equally brutal.

Yes you do get the choice between all 4 mechs. (And another pick for Invasion).
A good speed boost is to already have 4 players (no waiting for pilots) that all ready up fast
As for ballance. I won most of my matches (80% or so) but every time clanners were actualy losing overall despite our progress...
Streakcrows can be countered fairly easy if you dont panic over them. Just ct em quickly with brawly meds. I know most solo queuers dont have much experiance in those (or hitting them) but any player who ever pld mrbc or rhod or bigger group queues will. Thus i guess on low tier play the crows will be fairly strong. Higher up IS actualy has the better mediums for scout mode. Clanners can trade/poke/range better or equal but thats not gonna happen in scouting. And in dogfights those beam durations really hurt. So assume they remove crows for clan? What do you put against those IS srm meds then? Shadowcats? Ice Ferrets? Nah... Hunchie IIC-B maybe, thats it...
EDIT: Good mechs to beat crows with:
Enforcers (4P and 5P mostly I guess. I prefere the AC20)
Hunchbacks (4SP dont care about streaks! 4G with AC20, all others just slightly worse... dont bother with gauss, NO XL!)
Centurions (YLW and AH, maybe A too)
Treb 7K (maybe LG or 7M with srms too)
All brawly kintaros (expect to lose arm weapons)
Wolverine 7K
Pretty much all 3+ SRM griffins (the other 2 lose too much when arms fall off, and they do fast)
Oxides
Maybe even a SIB vindi if pld clever...
Pro tip: face them if you are fresh. That way damage spreads all over, not just one side or back. Just go CT and ignore the streaks.

Note the word "game" as in "play a game". People are complaining about free things you get from playing a game.

Faction Wars has been infuriating... This event is killing my enjoyment of the game. Passing on it, which I should do at this point, just feels like I'm being excluded from rewards. I'd probably take a month off the game right now if i didn't have premium time ticking away.
Invasions just feel like banging my face into a wall. half the time its against an organised clan. most of the time you know who has won after the second drop but still gotta waste 20 mins playing before you can try again. I've played invasion for many hours now and only won once. (oh yeah and my contract managed to expire mid game during that win so no loyalty rewards. that was fun too.). You gotta think that is at least partially my fault we lose but I'm about 50% in solo q and in the past month stepped my game up alot and been getting good match scores top damage etc. doubt its completely my fault my teams lost invasion every time.
Scouting mode just feels like aimlessly running around a map fighting over intel with my teammates. The maps are way to large and directionless. it feels super snowbally too. one side gets a slight advantage and it seems they usually win. fast mech vs fast mech combat is less interesting to me too and feels more or less random at my skill level. then chasing fast mechs in slower set ups just frustrated me as well. besides if I'm slow my teammates just steal most the intel.
I know I'm coming across really whiny and alot of my opinions probably aren't very valid because I'm a newer player, who understands less about the game and I'm less skilled. But I'm just frustrated with this event and want to vent and give feedback to the devs. I want to like MWO, I've been a battletech fan since I was quite young. I'm an avid gamer and been playing and supporting games for over a decade. I've thrown some money at this game and was planning on buying some up coming pre-orders. but I'm really second guessing everything right now. exclusionary events are a terrible feeling. nothing worse then trying to get into a game and feeling like your being punished and missing out for being new. In fact that's a common feeling I've had during a lot of events for this game exclusion. Don't have this mech for this event. exclusion. didn't buy this or that at the right time. exclusion. weren't able to play much that weekend. exclusion. want to spend some mc but didn't "stock up" at the right time exclusion. All just makes me paranoid about spending money. I've got a months premium time ticking and I've barely played for half of it that's kinda rotten feeling too.
I've been grinding away at this event for 2 days and for the most part really not enjoying my time. just feel like a punching bag. I've barely made any progress too and feel like I would have to spend an absurd amount of time to finish it. guess I'm just gonna skip it. I don't know maybe I'll cool off in a few days. but writing this I feel like I've talked myself into taking time off for a longer stretch.

You all queue up again, wait for another 20-30 or almost an hour then you someone gets disco'ed again an BOOM! your group gets booted out from the queue again!
