How about I just use my list of mech names:
Blackjack - BJ
Cicada - Cricket
Trebuchet - Trash Bucket
Pirate's Bane - Peanut Butter
Firestarter - Pyro
Arctic Cheetah - Cheeto
Nova - No Go
Vindicator - Vindy
Centurion - Cent
Hunchback - Hunchy
Stormcrow - Crow
Catapult - Cat
Jagermech - Jager
Cataphract - Phract
Grasshopper - Hopper
Warhammer - Whammy!
Ebon Jaguar - Epic BJ
Summoner - Sum
Timber Wolf - Timby
Highlander - Hovelander
Banshee - Angry Woman/B*itch/Screamer <- this really depends what mood I am in or what build
Gargoyle - Goyle
Executioner - Exey
Dire Wolf - Dire

So when it comes to the Night Gyr - Gear works for me.

Some others that are not widely used:
Orion - Onion
Marauder - Mad
Awesome - Barn

Now examples as how I use them ...

"I have 3 Timbys and a Phract at Golf 5."
"Who the hell is piloting the trash bucket?"
"Look they left the Dire behind."
"Peanut Butter Jelly Time!" - for when you want to pilot the PB

I'm sticking with Gyr, like Dire. But yeah, Gyrfalcon, also called Gyr.

"For centuries the gyrfalcon has been a precious hunting bird, highly valued among the Vikings. Typical prey includes the ptarmigan and waterfowl, which it may take in flight. It has also been observed feeding on fish and mammals."

If you read these comments, you'll see a lost of people attesting that this youtube channel pronounces a lot of words incorrectly. It's not something I would trust for any pronunciations. I've come across a few wonky ones before, as well.

I've been pronouncing it "gear" this whole time.. ("Night Gear")

Think that its the correct pronunciation? But what do I know, I'm not a native american/english speaker..
