Can you recomand a Battletech novel that followed the career of a tank pilot? As far as I can remember, the mechs were always center stage and MWO should keep it that way IMHO. Living Legends is a great combined arms game, and it was designed as such. MWO has been designed as a mech game, and I love it for that reason. I would not be opposed if tanks were targets on the practice range or npced in a base defense type mission.

And I, for one, agree that they should not be player-pilotable. If only for the amount of resources it would take away from the rest of the game.

I think they should be command abilities or "expendable" items. Basically, you can buy a one-use "Light Hovertank" that you can call in - NPC / AI driven, more a nuissance. Or other things like Artillery Strikes or Aerotech strafing runs, etc. Even orbital bombardment. Just make it more like Planetside did - commander abilities that target a general area, easy enough to see coming / avoid / shoot, etc.

But I do want to see the Battletech Universe come to life in as much detail and breadth as possible. I want to see dropships, aerotechs, VTOL's, hovertanks, SRM Jump Infantry, even the dreaded elementals. Because, *********, it is all awesome.

AI stuff like this could be cool, but will have to come far later (if at all). To be useful enough to spend C-Bills on, the AI will have to be half-way decent... and that could take a lot of effort, when right now no AI is needed at all.

And why should we not have a game that is mech only?
Why should not those who want a mech only game be able to have a mech only game then?
There already are a game for those who want combined arms, its called MWLL (Mechwarrior Living Legends).
The devs have designed this game to be a mech only game, and any non-mech units that may be added to this game will most likely be NPC/AI controlled.
