This is a simulation, which means it should be as close to the real thing as possible.
Now please explain to me how you would go about making this 3PV you are so fond of work in real life.
Tell me how you would be able to see things from outside a car when driving it.
If you can explain that, then we can start talking 3PV in MWO, not before

Ha ha .. the 'real thing'
Somebody stop him!

Well it's not cheating if it's available to everyone is it?
I think it would certainly be handy in 'Replay' mode for example

As for me I really like the 3rd person view, and would like to see it come back like it was in the Mech 4 series. However if I'm stuck with 1st person I suppose I will use to it, someday.

Yes.. "the real thing".. as if it were a real thing (like ever game tries to create)? Why do people only get pedantic and argue over semantics when they are on the losing side of an argument?

With this size of mechs looking around coner is not the case, the main problem of fp view is that i can not look around quick with one gesture.
Maybe as compromise they can set option that allow to link mouse not to torso turn but pilot view instead (with 360 angle of view), and torso shifts to it with max turning speed. I don't want it to say but, that is like in WoT :P

Actually both these are the problem with 3rd person view. Yes it allows you to look around corners over hills without exposing yourself (look at MW4) also if it allowed you to look aroun faster than torso swist speed it would also be a problem not to mention just the increased FoV. Those are 3 very large advantages. add in that in 3rd person shots dont generaly knock your aim around like in 1st person.

Most of us are not so much against you having 3rd person as we are against the massive advantages traditional 3rd person gives.

I would love 3PV but as has already been said without the ability to aim and whatnot.

or they could do it like WOT does 3rd person even if you can see over a hill if your tank can't then nothing will show up.

That could be a good way to please both sides.

here is my view.
you are a mech pilot not a mech.
so all veiw should be from the pilots view.

The problem is, that unless you have about 15 monitors, you can't emulate "what the pilot can see"...

so your argument is flawed on its basic premise.

I really dont understand this reading comprehension issue so many here seem to have.
When did they stop teaching this in school?

What part of "as close to as possible" do you dont comprehend?
Since we dont have mechs in real life we obviously cant compare it to that, but you can at the very least try and compare it to something that we do have.
Or do you drive a car from a third person view?

Battle awareness is very important and i don't believe such advenced tech has so limited view. Even tanks has periscopes.
I accept that looking over coners is some "cheat", but increased field of view doesn't.

The issue is that they want this game to be very competitive in multiplayer. Third person allows you to see where incoming fire is coming from much more easily. It also allows you to see around terrain while your Mech/character is blocked from enemy fire. Simply put, third person has an advantage over first person, which is why games force one or the other on all players. If you gave people a choice, then the people that choose third person will have unfair advantages over those that do not. It would basically be required for competitive play and first person would be pretty much worthless. You can't just have an open choice in a PvP game and it magically be balanced.

In previous games this wasn't an issue because they were basically all singleplayer focused and had zill multiplayer communities. Back then most players probably didn't even have an internet or were stuck with a worthless dial up like myself that couldn't play games online worth a damn. But now days everything is about online multiplayers and almost every game created has communities of players behind it. The game itself is also being designed especially FOR PvP, meaning they wouldn't logically have a game breaking option like this open for you. If they do put it in, it would probably be like MW 2 where you lose HUD and aiming options, thus you can't use it in combat except to maybe look around for a few seconds to spot enemy locations. Another option would be to allow its use only before a match starts, which means you'd be able to look at your Mech before then like you'll want, but then be stuck to first person once the match starts.

Hmm, if 1st person view prefered because of "simulator way" then give me back view and side view monitors. I don't want to be caught of gaurd because of low mobility and narrow view.
** Or i'll make small turell above mech's head and put tank commander in it which work is look around. :P

In FPS it is not a problem because you can turn almost instantly. and good players check their backs every 5 seconds.

This is not an FPS. Deal with it.

So basicly you wanna be able to cheat and have an advantage? You should get your money refunded and go back ro MW4 no one wants you here

theres only one use for 3rd view in this game, so u can check out everyones mech BEFORE the match starts (assuming here you will be dumped on ur starting line with a timer countdown), once started it should pull back into 1st view and stay there till the end of the game (not just when ur dead, u can still inform others then )

The best you'll get, most likely, is free look. What is free look? It's the awesome button that allows you to have the pilot look around without needing to turn the 'Mech or torso-twist. On a related note, free look also allows for the arm-mounted weapons to be aimed independently from the rest of the 'Mech.

As for it not being a problem in FPS, this isn't a FPS, it's a 'Mech simulator. The two should never be compared.

This would be great! :P

Best option for 3rd person. Hated people using it to look over hills to jump snipe in MW4.

PS- Jump sniping is fine, just the 3rd person looking over hills without scout or exposing ones self I have issue with.

As it was stated in an IGN article. The devs don't want someone hiding behind something but using 3rd person to be able to look around what they are hiding behind.

They already have started they are gonna add a 3rd person view if they can find a way to make it balanced, so I dont see why people are arguing one way or the other way since they are gonna make the decision regardless of what we say.

What is it about Mech butts that some people seem to have an unwholesome fetish with.
