before the patch for phase 3 i had reached rank 6 in davion and received my mech bay. some days later phase 3 rolled out and everyone was reset to freelancer. i lost lp on davion (dropping me below the r6 level). i also looked around at other factions and found that some others have dropped below their last reward level, even though those contracts were broken long before p3 rolled out. is this supposed to happen? seems you would only be penalized for contract breakages after the patch (like i had recently broke with liao to form a one man merc unit and fully expected those penalties).

It's funny when you are a Merc, you lose LP but can gain only RP ..

hmmm

So by playing as a merc you slowly lose all the loyalty points you accumulated , but you can never get it back unless you become a loyalist?

is that working as intended or did they simply forgot to change the code on this?

So how can a player grind the faction rewards (mech bays etc) now without suffering penalties?

I dont think you can. You will always lose loyalty points as a merc playing CW under the current system.

You don't that why implented it to prevent loyalist playing like a merc. If you wanna do mech bay tour now you go loyalist do 10 scout match for probation. Get rank 2,6 (depending if you want 1-2 mech bay per faction). Break contract and play something else for the 7 day cooldown since during the desertion you don't earn LP and reduced cbills there no reason to play FW.

Don't mind the penalty but the desertion basicly telling you don't go play FW for 7 days go play quick play or play another game.

ok thanks for explaining!

Hrrm seems very poorly designed then and also anti-player retention to a certain extent.

None of this is properly explained anywhere in the game, like Ghost heat etc... I mean I've been here on and off since closed beta and I didn't have a clue how it works now since phase 3!

Well, as a mercenary you´re basically only loyal to the almighty c-bill, anyway, so mistake or not it´s kind of logical that it would work that way....

Actually they forgot to implement that you get LP for killing mechs on planets the loyalists picked to attack.

So if you do like the OP and break loyalist faction and go backwards in loyalty points to the point of losing ranks say... how would you know when you came back to same faction what level will give you rewards?

Freelancers: randomly answering calls just to get into the action. Get the standard pay

Mercs: an organized group who are hired to work for that particular battle or event(s) on the planet. They get additional C-bills due to being hired.

Loyalists: Units loyal to a faction and most likely will die with said faction. They get not only C-bills for there hard work but also Loyalty as they work through and struggle with the faction.

This is rather reasonable and logical...

It's like the difference between a stray cat, your neighbours cat who visits you often but other places too, and your own cat.

A stray cat goes where ever and may or may not want you to pet it, it does what ever it wantss and it gets nothing really special for that.

Your neighbors cat comes over for pets, food, and shelter every so and so but it may always be kicked out at night so it can go home and you do not take any responsibilities for it in terms of medical or what have you.

Your own cat will most likely sleep at your place, eat there, live there and will be with you (most/) all the time because Mr Kitty is loyal.

Just want to clarify - The original poster did not loose loyalty points because instead of "breaking" the loyalty contract they became unaffliated through the global the faction reset by PGI as part of the Phase 3 release.

Breaking Loyalist status as a player will cost you points now per the patch notes.
http://mwomercs.com/...65-19-apr-2016/

The reason why the OP has lost points demoting them to a lower ranks is each kill during play is +15 points for the faction you work for (be it Clan, House, or Merc) and -15 points for the faction that mech worked for.

When looking at your status with each faction in-game you can see ranks highlight in blue. If you drop backward they are "greyed out" to look different than current rank and ranks not yet achieved.

Your total number of points is still shown so you will see how many points are needed to re-earn your old rank. You will not receive the rewards (like c-bills or mechbays) since you already got them.

i already completed my rank 6 tour, and im in the probation period for desertion. becoming a one man merc unit to mostly get the bays there. the only faction i have made significant progress on is steiner, when im around rank 11, so im going to need to be very careful about contracting with factions that are not at war with steiner.

i thought the 25% lp loss for desertion was punishment enough. but i guess pgi wants people to grind more. you can still sweep all the factions but it would probibly pay off to do them one at a time in their entirety. you can probibly still do the rank 6 tour, even if you loose those points, if you later want to go all the way to the final rank, those lp were really just a drop in the bucket. whats 30k when you need a million?

I understand bonuses and penalties. Ok. But 7 days of binding you to a faction after breaking loyalty? Meh. I joined a unit I thought I would stick with, but decided otherwise. I am trying to join a unit now that is doing a different faction. Yet cannot because of this penalty. THAT is a bit annoying... its like saying they don't want you to play FW at all for the next week... : /
