Hey gang... thought I'd hit up the good ol' community here for some advice on a reliable and/or trustworthy ad blocker. I'm behind the times and have gotten fed up with them ruining my surfing.
Thanking you in advance!

Interesting place to put it, but I suppose the most visible. I use https://adblockplus.org/

Note that if you use adblock plus you gotta go to the options and uncheck 'allow some advertising'. By default it does allow some 'non-intrusive' advertising
Now i'm waiting for somebody to come along and destroy all the newsletter popups plaguing the internet.

I use NoScript for Firefox, and Adblock on Chrome. I like NoScript a lot.

I've also been using NoScript for the past 12 years. It blocks everything...and I've never had a malware problem on multiple systems while using it. https://noscript.net/

The greatest thing to go with Adblock (other than NoScript) is the Adblock Element Hider. It's a separate addon that gives you the ability to select an element on the screen and block it. You can basically erase entire webpage columns like ad columns or unneeded clocks or dropdown menus that keep getting in your way or any other nuisance BS on websites.

Also, Better Privacy, Ghostery and Privacy Badger, though they do overlap a bit.
Partly there is the issue of tracking in violation of your privacy, partly because stopping all of this third party stuff speeds up page load times, and partly because third party ads, apps, etc seem to be the largest source of malware infections. Machines that block the adds and the apps simply seldom get infected by malware.
A clean machine is a happy machine.

Unfortunately there is already at least one site, that completely brakes AdBlocker functionality via using completely random image and div style names (something like http://s.aaaa.com/AB...3UNbhpuEOL6.jpg), so there is no way to distinguish ads from other pictures on site and the only way to block ads - to block ALL images. The only thing, I can do now - is boycott this site. I know, that such tech puts bigger load on web server, but very soon all sites will use this tech and AdBlock will be useless.

Adblock plus and NoScript, run both as they do completely different things.
If you're on a Mac, also run little snitch to manage in and outgoing calls from software that you may be unaware of.
A very nice alternative to adblock is adart, which uses the same block lists but instead replaces all the ads with contemporary art, featuring a new exposition each week
