Off-map arty asset, sure. Mountable weapon system, no thanks.

I'm all for adding the Arrow IV artillery system. But I'd make it something along the lines of this:

Arrow IV Artillery System

Type: Missile
Slots: 12 (dynamically placed)
Tons: 15
Range: 600 (Min) 5000 (Max)
Damage: 60
Ammo/t: 5
Cooldown: 6 seconds
Heat: 12

Description: A long range artillery system that fires individual guided missiles. These missiles require target acquisition assistance, such as TAG in order to obtain and maintain lock against targets past 1000 meters.

Why would the damage be more than a AC20? In TT it does 20 points of damage to the hex it hits. Its equivalent to showering a mech with a full 20pt salvo of an LRM20.

As for mechs that would carry it we have the CPLT-C3 that mounts one Arrow IV and 4 Medium Lasers.

Yes, long tom plx - but on the proviso it's one projectile per ton.

Nobody would leave Mechbay without that weapon system installed if done like that.

A.) It should take up a full 12 slots, in the same location, and only thus fit in a side torso.
B.) Min Range really doesn't even need to be that far. 180m should be fine.
C.) Ammo per Ton should be like 2 or 3 at most if going with 60 damage per missile - 5 shots would be 300 points of damage per Ton of ammo, compared to AC/20 at 140 or so damage per ton.
D.) As someone pointed out after this, it should deal 20 points per missile.

On the other, it would be incredibly easy for people to use the splash damage to grief their teammates at the beginning of fights.t.

Can't fire with out a lock from TAG.

The only issue I can see with adding Arrow 4 is it would require critical slot splitting. I'm not sure if they have it supported or if they plan on supporting it. If they do allow critical slot splitting, I want to equip the Sniper Artillery Piece. Not sure if the Long Tom Artillery Piece is to big to equip on a Mech. If not, I would like to try that, too.

If they add it as a direct crossover from TT it will be totally useless. Doubled armor makes the damage insignificant for something that weighs so much, takes up so many crits and has so little ammo/ton. Hell, even in TT, where it could be used with relative ease and 20 damage was significant, is was a fringe weapon at best.

neither of these are equipable on mechs, however, there is the http://www.sarna.net...Long_Tom_Cannon which is effectively a snub nosed version of the long tom artillery designed for being mounted on a mech or equivilant vehicle. It is also well within the time frame of this game so I do seriously hope they add it ^.^

as for the Arrow IV I don't really see why not, I mean, it'd be a devastating weapon system -if- it hit, but given the tonnage requirements and the vulnerability of the missile (it's still only 1 enormous missile, it might take more than one AMS but they can still be taken down if launched alone) I don't percieve it being one hex size of damage if it has any reliable guidance system but it would be nice to have a good reason -not- to murderball too.

Arrow IV system? Sure...if it cannot be manually aimed by the unit firing it. This thing needs to be aimed via TAG, or called in via the Command Console. Otherwise, any light mech with a missile hardpoint can run out there and drop Arrow IV missiles on the map.

The devs would have to add crit-splitting to large components before Arrow IV could be installed on our mechs, though.

If they're going to put it into the game it should be EPIC.

I want to fire an Arrow IV and have it land six games later, on a different map- on a different PLANET.

there's a reason these weapon systems are able to be mounted on a mech, they should still be able to be mounted on a mech, granted, artillery and such weapons as the arrow IV aren't designed to be a close (i.e. less than one map) system but it's a risk/reward, you get a heavy damage weapon and suffer the risk that you'll be unable to do much when inevitably you get surrounded by fast moving mechs (though, I will admit one of my fondest memories from MW4 is shooting my feet with a long tom and legging two ankle biters who were swarming me, it was epic XD)

Arrow, Long Tom, Sniper... "it all adds to the flavor."

I think these shall all be command abilities as opposed to weapons we can place on mechs
