I apologize if there has already been a post on this, but nothing came up when I tried to search for it.

I have played the Mechwarrior videogames since I was a kid but never got into the books or table games. The games mostly focused on the clans so I don't know a lot about the houses. So I have two questions:

1) Anyone know yet how necessary/beneficial it is to be in a house in game? Is there any need for me to try to decide which house I want to be in right now?

2) If so anyone know where I can get better information on the houses? The information on the site is ok but fairly small, and everything else I have found online Is so cluttered and massive its hard to go through. Is there maybe in the middle of cliff notes and a dictionary?

Being part of a house? with all that cloak and dagger political drama? And worse, for free? No thanks.

My momma always told me that if you're good at something, never do it for free.

There will be minor differences between the factions but nothing to get obsessed over. You won't see a House exclusive Mech or weapon that requires you to align with that House to buy or use it. They are mainly meant to provide opposing PvP factions while also offering small benefits to players remaining loyal to 1 specific House. Naturally you don't want players switching on a daily basis just to jump sides in a war and perks discourage that.(I e if your House is doing badly you'd just switch and no one would care. Loyalty perks discourage that logic.)

By that I mean that if the 2 of us are loyal to Steiner for example but then you decide to jumpship because we're getting owned(Just like Steiner did in MW 4 Mercs lol), you'll wipe your loyalty rating and have to start over from scratch with the new team while I keep my perks for staying the course.

Also a lot of people who are BT fans have strong loyalty and a long history with one house of faction.

Try approaching the question from the other side. Not "Whom do you wish to fight FOR?" Think of it as "Whom do you wish to fight AGAINST?" I have always diliked the Lyrans ansd Capellans, so it was an easy choice for me.

Do you like Ninjas?

Do you like Samurai?

Do you like Anime?

Do you like Sake?

Do you like Tom Cruise?

If you've answered yes to any of these questions except the last, you will like House Kurita!

If you've answered yes to liking Tom Cruise, then you should join the FRR.

For me, I fricken HATE Davion & Stiener. every durn mech warrior game that came out had you play for either Davion or Stiener. Liao or Kurita was always the bad guys (why the Asian Hate???)

***EDIT***

yes I know i'm gonna get crap load of people coming forward and saying not true, to which I say, List 1, just ONE PC Game where other than being merc and taking contracts from Kurita, where you ARE a member of that house?
