I have been here since inception pretty much.

I have a good time, and have fought with, and against a good many of you, many, many times.

Thanks for all the fun and agony.

I would like to know if I am in the wrong feeling that PGI is really doing a poor job of content, specificially map releases.

I remember several years ago someone at PGI said it cost them in the neighborhood of $200,000 to produce a new map.

That seems like alot. I have never wanted such intricate maps. We don't ALWAYS need a maps as detailed oriented as HPG or Mining or Crimson....

Imagine a map that is ALONE just a moon, like the OUTSIDE of HPG. That kind of map could be cobbled together in SHORT order, and at low cost. Right? I'd like that.

Even Polar was slightly over detailed...

I just don't understand why a forrest map, a plain forrest map, with NO stuctures doesnt exist?

I know PGI needs money, I get it. Assest that sell are priority #1, but ..

PGI... make some SIMPLE maps.

Please.

scratch off the last legacy map and then come up with some new ideas instead of re working the old maps.

Didn't they say something about one map per month? I thought they did.

Anyway, at this point, it seems kind of like they're just throwing random designs at a wall and seeing what sticks. I'm not really seeing a huge learning curve in terms of how PGI is designing maps. With this in mind, I actually want to see quantity over quality, because I think they're going to stumble over some good designs eventually if they just keep going. Like monkeys on typewriters.

And we can just downvote the bad maps, like most people are already doing.

Why do you think we (humans) have spent time fighting in jungles and deserts and tundra and mountains with nary a bit of "civilization" in sight? You may want to avoid it, but sometimes there's a reason for it.

Maps, UI improvements, some kind of persistent something (I want to believe in FW, but it really feels so meaningless still)...
I really enjoy logging in and firing away, but time keeps going by and very little actually happens...

Because some generals always vote for the wrong ******* map? This is famously why Pompey lost the Battle of Pharsalus against Gaius Julius Caesar.

Cryengine is notorious for being INCREDIBLY difficult to design maps for. It is also well known for being unfriendly to community map makers.

PGI must carry this burden alone. The Mechwarrior community survived a decade without a new game not on its creativity and dedication but because it bought more useless mechpacks.

---------------------------------------------------

If they spent the time to create tools and allowed community submissions then half their staff would lose their reason to be given paychecks. It seems to me that PGI is a bureaucracy where many of the staff are interested mostly in having reasons to remain hired. Its almost entirely made of useless middlemen:

Because between the big city you wanna capture, and the port where you landed, there is alot of featureless landscape.

Well if we are wanting and wishing for new maps:

I want a Jump Ship map, as in a fight with mechs on a jump ship, with a giant sun dominating one side, the ship underfoot, the collector sail dominating another view and a star field with a few discernible planets everywhere else.

I want an underground map with giant holes with shafts of light shinning down to provide intermittent illuminated areas. (Tarogato, has posted an image of this idea before on other threads, and if PGI could even get close to that sort of imagery I would take back every bad thing I have ever said about them).

I want a mech factory and/or palace assault map.

While PGI is fulfilling my new map desires, do me a favor and make the land bridges on Canyon have a weight limit (e.g. they break (and you fall for a bit of leg damage) if a mech over a specific tonnage (varied just to keep it interesting) walks to the middle; make the hanging cargo on River City and Crimson interactive (shoot and it drops), etc.
