None of the releases you have done since my last post seemed to have fixed my issue. I run an english copy of win 7.

Also when uninstalling and reinstalling, the MWO Portal Installers removal also apparently removed my MWO client from my computer, even though they were in different install locations on different hard drives even.

All works good - except some weird hidden empty head slot doesn't seem to be showing in the mechlab

ok, I did skip the 12 GB download like this:

*) as sson as you see a progress bar after clicking 'patch' (10 to 20 MB is enough) you cancel the download by closing the portal
*) then locate your standard MWO game folder (Can be over steam or vover default launcher does not matter, both work as long as they are up to date), copy all files into the destiantion folder of your tournament client. takes about 5 to 15 minutes to copy depending on your drive speed
*) then open the portal again (to be on the safe side as admin) and run the repair tool (you have a blue 'MWO tournament' icon in the top left corner of the portal, right click that to get the menu which lets you select that)
*) click scan. this will take a few minutes and when finished will have found 9 mismatched local files and a numnber of unneeded local file.
*) click repair, it wil delete the unneeded files and download the 9 mismatched files whih will take about 15 minutes at 4 MBit/s
*) after that is done close the reapir tool AND close the protal (becauye ti will stil display a patch buton at this point)
*) restart the portal .. and you can launch the game

note that it wil have default settings (your account settings will not carry over, my take is because it will basically create a new account on foirst login.t her ewil eb a few account injections and you wil be set up with a generous amount of MC, C-bilsl and GXP, all mechs will be mastered, but you will only have trial mechs in the mechbay.

My advice is be carefull with the goodies, do not waste htem, they might seem a lot, but remember that a big XL engine can cost up to 10 million .. 2 billion are spent fast that way if wasted ..

hope this helps a few to save a needless 12 GB download ... enjoy

PS: will try to figure out how to get my parsonal keybindings transfered to the tournament client and will update if I figure that out.. in the meantime.. anybody got an idea how to do that?

Load up the MWO Portal.

Right click on the MWO Tournament "box" and you'll see a list of options... click on "Open Save Game Directory".

It'll open up where the Tournament data is stored. Go up a directory (Saved Games) and you should see the MechWarrior Online folder.

You want to copy the structure of the Profiles folder from the regular MechWarrior Online folder (from this location) to the MWO Tournament folder.

That's it.

If you still have the PTS installed (for whatever reason), you can technically do the same for that right there as it is named MWO PublicTest (although, that's just for future reference, as it is useless at the moment).

I can confirm that the download is now running (after the latest patch). So I assume everything will be o.k.

Is there anything else indicated? Sometimes this message shows followed by the actual exception that was thrown, which would be very useful to know. If that's all that's shown, then I'll just work with that.

I've got the same issue.

I downloaded the installer from the email about an hour before this post, and when I ran it I got the first popup. Clicked OK on the popup, and noticed I now had an MWO Portal icon on my desktop (I didn't tell it it could put an icon there... ). I clicked it and got the second popup. I found "MWO Portal.exe" in my taskmanager and ended it rightly, then tried clicking the icon on my desktop, and got the first message again.

This was running net framework 4.0, as I found out. Installing 4.5.2 right now... it's telling me to close down mwo portal.exe. Hmmm, that took a while to install and isn't showing up in my registry. I'll try a reboot. Bugger, have to save this post this now, lol...

edit: seems that net framework was the issue. I wasn't running 4.0, my current version was hiding somewhere under version "4"... which is kinda misleading. But whatever, everything is moving swiftly now and downloading the game. So yeah, there should be a check to update net framework before running MWO Portal.

thanks a lot man, would have taken me some time to look there (MWO not having saved games and all)
worked like a charm

My question is why are we using something experimental (that seems to be causing issues) instead of just using the launcher for this tournament? The last thing needed for this tournament is more issues linked to something new?

The portal should've been saved for a PTS, not a tournament.

Could we also get a server indicator, for whatever reason I keep getting network errors trying to connect and have no way of knowing whether it is because of some setup or because the servers are down for maintenance or something like that.

yes, getting 'unknown error' when logging into the standard game now (when laoding mechbay), follwoed by a 'conenction to server was lost'. retrying to log in resutls in the same errors, also restarting the (non tournament) game client (steam).

only rebooting helps
next time I star the tournament cölient and leave it again ... same issue

I'm getting an error message part way through the download "MD5 hash mismatch". It may be to do with the connection being interrupted. The dialog box has yes and no, but no explanation about what they're supposed to do. Regardless of which I press, it starts the download over. This is a bit of a problem with my slow internet (6-7 hour estimated download time) and limited data.

I'm trying again right now, if it fails again I'll try copying the files from the normal client.

Edit: MD5 hash mismatch again. Time for plan B.

Second edit: Thanks Crispy Chicken, worked first time and only took about 30 min :)

the most common problem with the MWO Portal not running is likely to be that you don't have the correct version of .NET installed. Sorry about that, I'll be fixing the installer along the way to install all the prerequisites. For now, though, here's the link to the correct .NET installer:
https://www.microsof...s.aspx?id=42643

The proper version is 4.5.2. If you already have this (or a higher version of .NET 4.x) installed, then there must be something else going on, and I'd greatly appreciate it if you could provide some details about your issue.

Worked for me, anyways.

That's an excellent idea, and I'm going to add a feature to the repair tool to allow it to first check other install bases for the files it needs.

Kudos well earned on that one.

Portal opens, and I hit play. I try to sign in and the client tells me to close the game and patch from portal. Reopen the Client and there is no Patch option, only Play. Endless loop.

That's odd. did you copy the files over via Crispy Chicken's method, or did you just patch up normally? Also, can you check the version in build_info.xml? That file is located in the root of the game directory (by default, that's in C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MWO Tournament). It should match with this:
http://patcher.mwome...t/live_info.xml

Also, have you tried running the repair tool?

I used Chickens method, I have ran the repair tool multiple times. I will try again.

Ok, so this is what the repair tool told me

Fixing mismatched files.
Downloading file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MWO Tournament\build_info.xml
Caught an exception while fixing mismatched files!
Access to the path 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MWO Tournament\build_info.xml_fresh.5caf51f33bbb7b86a3df38472f4fc563' is denied.

Tried to repair, access is denied to resolve the issue.

Ok, that's the partially downloaded file, for some reason something has a handle to it. There are several things I'd suggest, just to start debugging. Before anything, though, ensure the Repair Tool is running as admin. By default it should ask for permission via the Windows UAC prompt when you open it via the portal. Anyway, first suggestion is the obvious reboot, secondly would be to check the task manager for a running instance of either PatchBot.exe (the game patcher) or MWORepairTool.exe. If you see more than there should be (PatchBot.exe should only be running if you're patching, and the Repair Tool exe should only be present once for any open repair tool instances, or windows), try shutting them down. Other than that, see if you can delete the file manually via the Windows file browser. If any of these options don't work, let me know. There are work-arounds, but I'd rather get to the bottom of your issue for reals. Either way, we'll get you up and running asap.
