Hey, thanks for the offer! I may take you up on that. I'm about to walk out the door to go camping and be a groomsman for my friend's wedding this weekend (He and his fiance are woodsy people. The wedding is actually at a campground. Weird, I know), and I just wanted a quick check back at my post, but I'll be back around some time Monday evening.

Considering how the tier matchmaking system works I believe the only difference you are going to see in tier 1 over teir 2 is the removal of tier... 4?... players. So you will still be playing with tiers 3 and 2 even if you are 1. So no, it won't get better. Once you're tier 2 you can pretty much consider yourself regularly playing with players from the top of the totem pole.

The hilarious thing is that as time passes, Tier 1 actually gets WORSE, as more bad players with enough time played will end up there.

Paul built a tiering system that over time becomes less a separation between good and bad as players inevitably hit the top tier, making it currently -worse- than what we had prior. The saddest thing is all it'd take is tweaking a few numbers so players would gain PSR only with increasingly high match scores as they headed towards T1, and lose more as a base + have to also make higher match scores to avoid PSR loss.

But apparently, that's not as good as participation awards. I'd happily end up dumped in T3sville again if it meant ranking was honestly a measure of skill vs. the "everyone can be T1" it is today.

Can some one explain this to me about tiers.
After the tiering system was introduced i started playing again cause a nitwit friend of mine (kidding about nitwit truly a good friend) gifted me some mechs a warhamer and marauder so i loged in after over a year maybe 18 months not playing.
I was seeded in the middle of tier4, so we played, im no leetster but i do quite well knowing fundamentals of game and having played thousands if not 10s of thousands of games previously. My scores were decent, averaged i would say 4-500 points damage often more, a good W/L and KD, those mechs were good and with a bank in the tens and tens of millions and a sizable bank of gxp i was able to outfit with the best of moduels etc. I would estimate my play was average or above, played probably a few hundred games or more over 2 weeks, had very very few games where i had a minus in ranking and i mean few.
Yet that XP bar hardly move upwards i got to about 4/5ths of the way to 3 before i thought wow this is slow...
Now on the forums i was seeing people say, " i started a smurf account and got it to tier 3 in so many games ( 30-40 from memory) or in such a time ( few hours, a day)", and im thinking how is this possible i just did 2-3-400 games mostly above average and i couldnt get to tier 3? i must really really suck.
Not wanting to believe this (ego) i started a smurf account...
Well F me, by the end of a couple days play 3-4 hours a day, i was tier 3 still with only one bought mech ( from the newby C bill bonus) and no modules (Guess im just super leet with trial mechs).
So how can this be? How was i able to get tier 3 on a new account so easily while my main account with all the bought mechs modules etc take so many many games to try break out of tier 4 and not been able to, and yet get into tier 3 with a new account in basically a few dozen games?.
Can someone explain this to me..

[too easy to get to tier 3 on smurf account]

After the steam release thay changed the tier system by magnifying the changes to your PSR for the first few games.

Cadet-time rounds are used to set your starting tier ranking- so if you're a decent player, you'll likely end up T3 from the get-go using a new account. Once they're over with, you gain/lose PSR normally.

This can mean people deliberately skunk out an alt account, followed by an orgiastic bout of seal-clubbing as an honest-to-goodness good player is let loose in the underhive, leaving a trail of the rekt.

The below image is an accurate portrayal of the results.

Yes and no. At PSR Tier 1 you will face players from Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. Some of those Tier 3 players might even be players that were just recently Tier 4. Being as PSR is little more than an XP bar, the tier rating doesn't even mean that much. A player that can achieve Tier 3 will eventually rank up to Tier 1, just not as soon as a better player would. A player that can't even get through Tier 4, will probably never rank up because they are simply so bad at the game that they can't rank up in a system that is designed to rank you up over time. (no offense to low ranked players... most of them inflict this upon themselves by playing non-optimised builds and they have no interest in facing competitive-minded players, and I can understand that.)

As fat4eyes said, you get a significant boost in your first 10 games. So if you're new to the game or rusty from having not played in a while, you'll probably get pretty average scores and it won't rank you up or down very fast. But if you're a regular player who is quite skilled and you start a smurf account and immediately are playing well from the very first match, you'll reach tier 3 very very quickly (I think it only takes a couple days, but I could be wrong ---- PSR starts new accounts at the top of tier 5 right now, but when you picked the game back up I think it was still at a time during which PSR started you off at the top of tier 4 before they adjusted it)

Actually im pretty sure i know how this works as well as most of you, i have read most of the relevant info provided by PGI at the time of introduction.
As i understood it from my readings it wasnt cadet time that set your tier, i remember reading that there was a formula (maybe not that word) where tier % increased or decrees was calculated using the Number of games previously played.
I took this to mean for eg. that a player with few games had say for eg a +5% increase in tier movement for a win while a player with 10k games had a movement of say 1% increase in tier movement. I remember this from Pauls post,, correct me if im wrong, can anyone point to a post//document where PGI details this?.

Regardless of all this the point ive been travelling towards is, in reality it doesnt take a newb very long to get into tier3 and mosts vets no mater their leetness or noobines would be at least tier 3+, and all these players are in the same bucket and this bucket would be by far the largest bucket in game.
So been tier 1,2,3, your likely playing the same people, you can kid yourself and think im tier one im gona be playing different more leet players but in reality you are still playing in that same bucket. MM is just pulling players out of a bucket not matching you on your tier.

To answer ya question.....

NO!!!!

Nothing about tier changes the core mechanics of how this game works.......rolflstomps.....bad maneuvers...etc...

My suggestion, either come to terms with this game never being anything more and just take it for what its worth. Take a break for a while. Or join that unit and only play as a practiced team with them......albeit you'll find this comes with its own "fun"!

Either way...best of luck finding what suits ya! Posted Image

All being in tier 1 means is you have to carry your team every game or you lose.
