Thoughts On Clan Ferro Fibrous

I am trying to get my KDR-1 to live a little longer in battle
I saw on smurfy
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/equipment
"CLAN FERRO FIBROUS ARMOR 20% more protection per ton, occupies 7 critical slots but weighs less.”
So the Clan Ferro has 20% more protection per ton which is a lot better than the IS 12% improvement per to ton
Which is almost double the protection per ton
Has anyone upgraded?
And can you tell if it is really an improvement?
I would think with an improvement like that it would reflect on your Mech stats
Eventually
Thoughts?

That's right. Ferro Fibrous armour is bulkier on the critical slots, but weighs less. The amount of armour points you can allocate stays the same. 1AP of FF = 1AP of Standard. 1AP of FF weighs less. Ferro Fibrous armour does not offer greater defense per point.
While "Ferro Fibrous offers 20% more protection per ton" is technically correct in saying it is lighter... It is very misleading. What it actually means that for 3 tons you could put on 115 points of Ferro, whereas for 3 tons you could only mount 96 points of Standard. Max values of how much can be mounted are unchanged. There is your "more protection per ton" right there.
Just like the Endo Steel structure, Ferro Fibrous armour is there to reduce weight. However, Endo Steel is ALWAYS a bigger weight saver for the same slot cost. When you need to choose one. Go Endo.

Curccu are you saying there is a book/manual/PDF that explains the game?

And, I mean... by now some of the basics of the game like how the mechlab upgrades work should have been understood. We're not talking ghost mechanics here. Have... have you never used ferro as an upgrade on any mechs in the past before?

But I've been on car forums for years so I knew asking questions on a forum is a no no
So I am screwing around one day adding Ferro the next day taking it off just burning up C-bills
In a dumb effort to try to make things work a tiny bit better
Sort of knowing this is not working because my Mech goes down as fast if not faster than before
So thinking maybe it’s just me I weaken and ask a question
It’s like cool down I don’t know how many months I played before I learned about cool down
But it is also obvious it is rate of fire
Some people just need to be told
Like I said when I started I have a ton of questions but I won’t ask them all at once
I just need an anti-troll shield

if you want non judgemental advice try posting in new player help, you may not be a new player but ask questions there and you usual receive the information without the mockery or attitude you can receive in other areas of the forum.

Or become very self explanatory with minimal mechlab experimentation.
That said, plenty in TT is horribly weirded and explained, too. And Ferro had always been implemented in a bassackward manner. In Btech/MW

It's far easier to think of it as 'armor which weighs less but takes up more space'.

Because ForumWarrior Online has different gameplay mechanics than MechWarrior Online.
Also... you gotta avoid work somehow.

Endo steel saves more weight so make sure all your mechs use Endo steel, there are a few builds that don't use Endo to fit more DHS but no builds use FerroFib over endo steel because it simply isn't better.
Rarely, you can fit both FF and ENDO on a mech. Some mechs come with both like the TBR and the SCR. Some mechs come without like the HBR and the DWF while some come with Ferro Fib instead like the GAR which makes the GAR a really terrible mech because of FerroFib instead of Endo steel.
Rule of thumb: Always pick Endo

However, when it comes to the mechlab and the lack of any useful tutorial by PGI.. I'll give a pass on this to the player.
For someone who isn't entirely invested in this game, it appears very difficult and strange.
"I can make my mech go faster?"
"Endo saves tonnage? Is this free or what do I give back in return?"
"Ferro increases armor, but it doesn't?"
In a game that requires the player to know pretty much every tool in their disposal, PGI does little to nothing in providing you info that is necessary to not become straight road kill.
Trying to explain PPC, LRM, laser mechanics to people that "believe it behaves a certain way" doesn't really help when you watch people time and time again waste their shots and shoot into the netherworld. The other day, I was watching someone trying to SNIPE with CERSPL lasers @ 400m. No really, this happened... in the group queue no less.
Sometimes, the game is won or lost when it comes to the mechlab portion of the game. Sometimes it's truly won/loss by knowing or not knowing how to play the game.
Welcome to MWO.
