What if they had a little section in mechlab where people of all factions could just go to and talk some bull ****.
Maybe like the bar in starcraft 2?
We dont really seem to have a lot of options if we want general chat.

A decent social system (including general or global chat) is something that has eluded PGI for the entire lifespan of the game. While something like this should be a fairly simple undertaking, I wouldn't hold your breath.

No. Fix what's broken first. Command Consoles, LRMs, Machine Guns, C-ER LL, etc.

yes the game needs a prope chat, t currrntly doesn'T when dropping the chat suddenly goes off, when respwning the chat history is gone, that all sucks a load. Not ebign able to add a faction wide chat outside of the faction screen, so you never cna work on the loadout and not miss stuff happenign i the faction. All that are some annoying things.

I made a thread about this once. I believe people also have made similar threads in the past. In mine, Alistair mentioned that it will need heavy moderation which I agree. Peeps also made similar remarks in other threads about the same issue.

I don't really think so. WoW's general chat didn't get a lot of moderation and I still enjoyed it

Agreed a "General Chat" would be nice to have, this has to be the only game I play that doesn't have one (In addition to MWO I play Star Trek Online, Champions Online, and Occasionally SWToR, FFXIV and even WoW [Though not in the last year]).. Faction Chat is the closest we have to a General Chat, and even that only allows us to speak to our own faction.

I've been passively been around for years now (since there were only lamechs and catapults).. game always lacked that type of social feature. Every other game i played, had that, not mwo. I missed it! It took me years to even get close to being somewhat usefull. I could have asked stuff in general and got tips back in matter of seconds (yeah well forums arent very practical, posting **** and waiting for response...eventually forgetting the thread).
Game itself didnt really kept me playing, couldnt talk to anyone, ask for help or anything, kept loosing... in the end why bother playing at all. I returned only because other main game (star conflict) i played got "patched" to feces material.
So lets hope general chat of some sort will happen anytime soon

As far as moderation goes, Do they even moderate chat within the faction chat windows that we have?
Also, think about how often you see someone using faction chat...... its not like it would be a busy conversation box.
Most of the talking can be done with the messaging system if you want to communicate with other players who aren't in your unit.
But general chat would be used by people seeking advice or tips, throwing comments at another unit or faction, or discussing a recent pub battle that took place.

people get offended by every second line I type in chat. The good old trolling or just a little faction-based trash talk pre game seems to be too much for many people.
Too much players who take this game way to seriously for a global chat. I mean they can't even set the global ingame chat on by default because of this
