I was just noting how funny it is that google translator can mess things up sometimes. Its usually an odd/funny situation when language barriers lead to miscommunication.

Well i as a german have to say that i am unsure if thats actually true. Strong dialects are basically not used in general. For example even the bavarians doesn`t speak there dialect often and Plattdeutsch will be used only for the preservation of cultural folklore.
Towards your comments on german television: 95% of the tv progam is made in "high german".

That is a good idea! But i fear without learing basic grammar in at least one language course that could be difficult as well, in the heat of battle.

I'm just assuming that specifically during battle no-one gives a damn bout grammar. At least having a look, or rather ear, on our coms since we moved to English there's still a rather big gap separating the Germans from the rest of our Lance mates just as many of us are so used to specific commands and German sayings being ruthlessly transformed into English.. still we won't lose a drop just because of translation issues.
