I'm not excited about the Phoenix Hawk, but the Cyclops looks as if it will have a wide variety of viable builds on top of a unique in-game ability. It could be awesome.

Cyclops offers unique ability to boost friendly mechs' radar range. It could be a good ride. Phawk on the other hand, has low amount of hardpoints on top of being on the light side.

PXH may have a useful variant or two, but I suspect it's overall going to be more VND than BJ. CP looks solid and varied.

The Cyclops holds no interest for me, but it has a unique ability that should have been how quirks were handled.

The Phoenix Hawk on the other hand, does hold interest for me, if your a purely nostalgic reason...

I got into CBT from watching Robotech/Macross, so to have a VF-1S Strike Valkyrie, well even if she can't transform, I'm still happy. I am under no illusions that it will be a meta god mech, but I don't play the meta game anyways, I just play for fun.

The Cyclops warhorn alone is worth it:

If you're a good Assault pilot, grab the Cyclops. A good medium pilot? Grab the Phoenix Hawk.

If you're good with both, get the Cyclops, it has a better deal considering $20USD for 3 Assaults as to 3 Mediums.

Oh and always get the hero on mechs that are >Heavy. you're bound to get a good deal out of them.

Example:
Kodiak hero costs $15USD. Atlas hero costs $30USD+.

The Cyclops is a pretty average (at best) looking Mech based on probably hit boxes and hardpoint locations, so its viability depends almost entirely on how they implement that battle computer.

If the battle computer has a wide range and significantly increases targeting performance, having one on your team could be game-changing. But if it has a 90-meter radius and increases radar range by 10% it'll be essentially useless.

I highly recommend not pre-ordering the Cyclops. It's just too risky because it's entirely dependent on a brand new system that we know nothing about.

No, they lack value. The only thing that interested me was dual gauss on the Cyclops, which they gave to the hero. That mandates a $35 buy in.

That falls short of the Kodiak's value.

Since you no longer get the early order bonus, just wait till they are released, then you can buy after seeing them in game and deciding for yourself if you would like them.

Cyclops is mostly going to be a fast pocket Atlas. Plus the ability to boost allied sensors. Has potential, worst case scenario it will be a fast, non-jumping Highlander.

Phoenix Hawk... well, if you don't want it for nostalgia reasons, there's the fact that it is not likely to be worse than the Vindicator. Still, it should have the speed necessary to give it a good compromise between the speed of the Cicada and the firepower of Cents and Hunchies.

If the KDK is your standard, you're going to be hard pressed to buy another pack ever. (Maybe a good thing but...)

Returned by PH pre-order today.

Didn't order Cyclops.

Ill get them for CBILLs if this game is still around then and they are good. The most interesting PH builds are the standard ones anyway not the hero's.

No more Shifty dollars for PGI until they actually make FP worth a damn.

I ordered the Cyclops cause it looks like it'll be a nice fast pocket atlas.

And it has that sensor suite that seems like it has interesting possibilities..especially if it helps bap range lol.
Otherwise... all of the srm and laser vomit forever.

Due of boating capacity, for me cyclops look like more to a mauler with bigger engine possible than a tanky atlas..

A mauler with more loadout possible ? Definitivly a must have for assauts pilots.

Well, probably more like almost the speed of the Cicada with almost the power of the Hunchback. Its a bit too small/light to run big ballistics (if it can even mount an A/C20), and even with 1 variant having 8 energy, it is still shy of the Hunch 4P.

Also, the Cicada frequently does 130 ~140 kph and I can't see an effective build on a PXH reaching those speeds while still carrying a useful load out. I would guess most PXHs will tend to fall between 100kph and 120kph. I know there is a variant with MASC, but it still can sustain higher speeds for any real length of time.

And that isn't even talking about the high hard point locations of both the Hunch and Cicada vs the PXH (amongst other things).

I think the smart thing is to wait and see before buying tge Phoenix Hawk. Like others said, there are no bonuses for buying preorder right now, so might as well wait and see if it is really worth it.

Any clue what the mech in part 2 is? The one the Cyclops is dealing with? I didn't realize they were bringing 4-leggers into the game.

Good speed, great jumping, some ECM - potential for some interesting builds - should be an...interesting mech. All depends on quirks. I'd expect it to be agile.
