So, recently I pulled out my old catatphract (first owned mech) that has just been sitting in a mech bay collecting dust, I have been having issues deciding on a good build anyone got any suggestions?
I generally do mid to long range (close reserved for my light mechs) and fire support

For me, the best 4X build is 4xac5, xl 255. And put some ac5 cooldown module ;)

It really is the only build, been playing it a lot recently. Loads of fun when you really get to chain fire booths arms at someone.

To repeat myself, the Black Widow puts the final nail in its coffin. It's 100% obsolete.

4 AC/5s really. It's a heavy ballistic platform. Have some MLs there for back-up. If you stuff it right, you should have just enough for everything within that tonnage limit.

It's a specialist mech that only a few would cherish. But 4 AC/5s with chain fire is very devastating in prolonged team fights.

I sold mine. Too slow and weapons mounted too low. The Black Widow ist really cruel and makes the 4x obsolete

I'd buy one sooner or later. I am having a blast with the Ilya with 3 UAC/5 and the quad AC/5 seems so good...

Actually, the old -4X still has one advantage over the Black Widow with quad AC5 - ballistic hardpoints in the arms.
Yes, those same ground-scraping, molehill-destroying, low slung arms. But think about it - those arms can also move left and right, and quite a distance from memory, meaning that it should be able to circle strafe people with that dakka dakka much better than the Black Widow could. Sadly, that really is just about the only advantage of the chassis...

I found 2xAC5 2xAC2 and backup weapons to be preferable. The low speed and low mounts are a pain though.
