I have been playing this game actively for 2 weeks now. I started in Open Beta and played for a month then, so this is technically my 6th week playing MWO.

After two weeks of thorough search, I have yet to find a quality video or post explaining how faction play actually works. Not even from this website.

The question I have been trying to answer for the past 10 days straight is: "How do I gain faction reputation?" And for people who are already knee deep in faction warfare play obviously know the answer, but I've been trying to scour the entire internet for such a simple answer so that I don't have to ruin other people's games (I'm a T-4 pilot using trial mechs, come on even I wouldn't want to play in a game with myself). I still have yet to find an answer. I've been trying to find out on my own these past 10 days. I've played over a dozen matches in CW and I've finally won once about an hour ago. Still 0 faction reputation.

So I want to ask directly at the source. How do you gain Faction Reputation as a Mercenary (or whatever Reputation as a Loyalist)?

Not to be sarcastic, but play (and win) FW matches. Like CB and XP, I've never really studied the formula but there's a break down at match end if you want it.

Yup. Was just about to respond with: Play and win.

But you are correct there is not much out there in re a tutorial or guide for CW. What is out there is here on the forums and the forum search is not functional. All the guides and such are player created but you can find some good stuff via google. Google search by putting MWO at beginning of search and then follow with search terms (community warfare faction play guide loyalty points reputation) and the first block of hits are usually from these forums.

I did win. I got a 200,000 C-bill payout for winning on Jade Falcon (joined this because last week I was with Kurita and finding a good match as solo was pure insanity).

No faction reputation. Not even one point. I don't think there is a 10-game "training period" for Mercenaries, so I have no idea why I gained nothing. Unless I have to be a certain skill level or perform at a certain rank.

I only did 600 damage and got 2 kills that match so that was pretty abysmal, but to gain no reputation? Something's not right.

Are you a loyalist or a mercenary. If you are a mercenary you get rep points under that heading and not the clan or house you are contracted to. If you pledged loyalty to a house or a clan there is a period of 10 games (I think) before you earn points and there is a penalty when you leave the clan/house. I play as a merc and earn ponts every faction match

Oh god I am dumb. I did not see "Mercenary" at the very bottom in the Faction Reputation listings.

I have 1410 Mercenary points, 66% of the way to my fifth mech bay. And it seems that Mercenary rating does not take into account which faction you fight for? Well alright. Thanks for reading. What a joke.

The post-game stats say nothing about gaining "Mercenary" points. It just says "Faction Reputation: 0". Now I know that that's because I'm not a loyalist. TBH they should really change that to show Mercenary points gained if you are a Mercenary but maybe that's just me.

That must be a bug from a recent patch, because it displayed Mercenary Reputation Point just fine last time I played a CW match. Admittedly, life has been busy and I haven't been on a lot in the last couple weeks and there has been another patch since the last time I was on with my unit for CW.

IIRC, it's on that first popup that I usually close before looking at. Haven't played FW in a couple months, though, could be wrong.

"Play and Win"...
But note that PGI has recently added with the Phase 3 FW/CW thingy...
A probationary period of ten days for loyalists.

As a merc, all you need to do is play and win.
You get cash either way, you only get reputation for success.

Can you solo play as mercenary ? I thought one had ot be part of a Unit....at least it says so at the carreer choice window when acccessing FW ?

If you want to play Solo as a mercenary--form a unit consisting of yourself. I suspect there has been an increase in low member (1-5) mercenary units since the current FW system went into effect. I found the Freelancer option to be just useless and didn't want to pledge loyalty until I could see where the games are (what fronts were most active).

It's not just CW information that's lacking. Fortunately the community is usually very responsive and helpful (here -- less so in-game).

I'm gonna take the liberty of quoting you nextdoor in the MechWarrior Academy forum. Why?

Been BEGGIN' for a CW/FW tutorial since before the Steam release. It needs to happen. I mean, sure, it's pretty LATE for that now. On the other hand, there ARE still people showing up who'd maybe like to play if only there were SOME attempt at a tutorial.

And mind you, for what it does the Academy IS pretty cool. It just needs to do a LOT more.
