Greetings Mechwarriors. Today I have a simple question. Where is the hype for the MWO tournament? I see very few, if any, threads about it. Is noone excited or is it just due to poor advertisement?

I think people are just upset over the scheduling and rules because they can't compete entirely or they have to play certain days which makes them very unhappy.

Hey, it's a tourney, a big one at that, and a actual official first one. yeah sure, there was that one in California, but it was during beta so not really official.

I'm hyped about it, and maybe some will see in the following tourney matches soon enough... :)

If you tune in to the shout cast that they stream of the matches it is really entertaining and interesting to watch. I missed the first night but have watched the others and I enjoyed them.

Yeah, but that's the thing. It's the first official tournament in a long time and I see very little coverage or comments on the forums. I understand that one would be upset if they couldn't attend but atleast root for the teams that do play. That's good sportsmanship IMO.

Really? I'll check that out. Thank you!

It has its own section of the forums. As for hype, those of us involved are mostly focused on getting matches played. And nothing of note has happened yet in NA (no upsets of contenders), so meh. Also, it's super, super grindy which killed a lot of the buzz.

The tournament is a pretty ham fisted attempt

They should have done several smaller tournaments so they could get warmed up for a big tournament

When I watched it on twitch I got the impression that Mdmzero0 was shout casting and officiating at
The same time

I hope PGI has an official/referee for each match

Banditb17 and Mdmzero0 seems to be carrying a big load

I kind of feel that Russ is on an island with this esport. Pretty sure only a small part of the community plays competitively.

why should there be any hype? MWO doesn't have enough of a following to deserve hype.

Hey, at least he's not a founder. Sucks to be told you're not the target demographic, even though you supported the vision from the beginning.

I never really went for big tournaments. When I was a LoL player, putting in about 3000 matches between release and 2014 I never watched a single tournament. I don't have any favorite teams or players and I never paid much attention to the outcomes. To give you an idea of how much time that is, just imagine that the average match length of LoL is 45 minutes and I've had them hit 1 hour 25 minutes before.

Same thing for MWO, I have no idea who is playing or care.

I'm all for them having one though, I think its a good way to be involved with the fans and I'm sure everyone that wins something has a good time.

I would buy the 2016 official tournament gear but 3 cockpit items for $10 is more than I'm willing to throw away when that is half as much as a mechpack that comes with 3 mechs and 3 cockpit items (badge and title too).
I literally went to the tournament page and was about to make the purchase when I was like 10$?? I thought it said 5$ I found out that only 5$ is what is going into the coffer of the tournament and exited the interface for the store.

Will I be jealous of the 2016 cockpit items that everyone is sporting when it is 2017? Yes! I will.

But I'm not going to buy the 2017 items either at $10.

We're currently in one of the most boring phases of the tournament: weeding out all the teams that won't make it to regionals. So there are a lot of seriously unbalanced matches, a lot of teams that have no idea what they are doing (so very boring to watch), and a lot of forfeits and withdrawals. Plus, the vast majority of teams are nobodies on the competitive scene, so we don't know anything about them.

When we get to regionals, it will just be the teams that finished toward the top of the qualifying round robin stage. That's where we'll see competent teams and names we'll mostly recognise and the shoutcasting will be infinitely more interesting (probably not "best of one" matches also, so you'll have time to actually appreciate the teams.)

It's hard to care about something that has zero relevance.

I just looked at the front page. There is nothing about the tournament that is not a faq.

There are no news, there are no stats...

I can't get info on how many teams play it, how the regionals and finals will look like, not even some charts or what is going on right now.

Not even dates... well not even a tournament info page. All you get if you click on "tournament" ist "this event is over"

There's no way to get hyped or into the tournament as a viewer, no marketing whatsoever. They throw out so much money as grand prize but you won't even find some news on the gaming sites. It is really hard to get a picture of the tournament, even if you try and if you are interested.

Aside from PGI'S official support, PGI'S rules so on and forth

Where's the difference between this and so many tournaments in the past?
Official ones, we didn't have except that one way back

But the community has been running tourneys for quite some time
Except with less fillers
I recognise quite some names of groups that play normally for fun in MWO
Wonder why they even put they're name in the hat

If you think rofl stomps are bad, you've never seen how a group of actually good players that train on a regular basis together can crush a "for fun" group

Also there's been a certain absence of news of any kind
Ehh

Hope they cover it when the big names are against each other

Gonna tune in to watch Isen when it matters :-)
Wish you guys luck
Well for the later matches, don't actually think the first rounds present any danger

Let's also say that this tournment is been done for ..how many?.... 40-50 players who are truly skilled.

So, yes, even after robin stage the boredom will be all over the place.

The true lolling thing is that the entire pgi is """"working"""" for a bunch of people and disregard all the rest of the community.
But, even in this..... where is the hype? It's always the same in this too.

Maybe hype is too strong a word
Promotion would be better
I did buy the supporter pack after someone mentioned you get a c-bill boots for the rest of the year
I was like-- oh ok that might work
You can and do learn something watching the tournament
The matches are better than the regular comp play (I do wish it was a 12 V 12 since that’s what we play)

Not better play just but better to watch

I recommend checking it out
