Sympathy For Pgi (At Least In Game)

Here's why I sympathize a bit:
Last night I had the misfortune of dropping with a poor fellow marked as a PGI employee (you all can guess where this is going). Group drop, but we were mostly mixed pugs but with some recognizable T1 players on our side. But quite a few equally recognizable names and talent on the Red team as well. None of our team's skill mattered a bit however (I am not much help normally, but it was even worse last night. I was in a brand new Jagger 6 A with a weapon I never use: Gauss x2 (finally making an effort to try and git gud with them)). Reds hit us like a bomb and ran us over like a rabid pack of dogs all trying to kill the PGI guy. It was fairly brutal. I think 12-2 maybe? Anyway, the point is that while they certainly brutalized us, I had the distinct feeling that the PGI fellow was the focus of their wrath.
I've seen the same thing when Tina and PGI folks drop. Tactics go out the window and it is a rush to try and kill the PGI person (this sort of aggression can actually be pretty effective as shown above). But it has got to be hard for a PGI player to get excited about playing when you know that in every match that the enemy wants to kill you -you specifically- more than anything else. And if their play experience is consistently that negative what do ya suppose that does to their view of the game, its mechanics and the community (see famous video of Paul being shown the joy of knockdowns)? Just something to think about.
There. I have tried to sympathize with PGI about something.

A PGI employee is a player as anybody else. But its not for the first time that I hear about "famous" players or "forum warriors" that get focused even team killed.
Those idiots think it is fun.
Same could be said about duels sometimes you find another player alone as you are and you start circling each other. I mean you are far far away from the front line and still some guys will just turn and intervene.
It becomes even worse when you "challenge" an opponent in battle.... you can be sure that either you or you foe are dead before you start to shoot at each other.

Actually that's traditional.
Since closed beta anytime a PGI employee is in your match the game mode becomes Protect/Assassinate the PGI.

That said the last time I remember a PGI employee was some guy *think his name started with an A* in scouting mode soon after phase 3 dropped. We were still trying to figure out how to defeat griffin 4 mans attacking MS guarded planets. We just talked about different tactics for the match and what to do for the next one, I dropped with the guy a few times in a row. No one said anything about him being PGI, no one acted differently, the guy was just a player like anyone and not a big name from PGI that I recognized.

Yeah, but that doesn't make it right...no "right" isn't the correct way to put that...rather, it just might not be terribly helpful for the game.

Everyone fights and no one quits!
The only good PGI (ingame) is a dead PGI.

Actually, if approached correctly, it could be loads of fun ... even for the PGI player. It's all in the positioning and traps set.

As for this trend of hunting PGI players, I don't really get it. It strikes me as absurdly childish and boring, especially because getting the killing blow is like winning a lottery, since there's probably 11 other guys laying down fire and trying to do the same thing. It's not like you beat the king in a jousting tournament, is it?
I generally don't pay a lot of attention to the PGI staff when I see them, except to say hello and maybe give a compliment if something nice has happened recently. Sometimes, they just ignore everyone who tries to talk to them, which I find weird (if you don't want to talk to anyone, just use an alt account), but they're generally nice and forthcoming.

It's the same tactic used when teamed up with Gold Clan Mechs.
Another thing I find straight up ridiculous. Fortunately, I've rarely seen it. I once saw a guy TK a Golden mech though. So stupid.

Yep, TKing someone just because they doled out more cash than you did is beyond low. I just treat it as a case of this:

Any PGI employee is welcome to come to the FRR hub and join one of our pickup-groups. We are pretty good at playing "Protect the Prince or Princess".

What? Protecting the PGI is the harder task but so much more rewarding when you succeed. Unless it's Paul, he's just fun to troll to see what you can get him to nerf.

How?
- economy
- weapon nerfs
- mech nerfs
- delay features
- and other ways
It is fun to troll Paul, but is it worth it ... heck no. But still fun.
