One of the few things I was genuinely excited about was a brand new engine for MWO, and all the possibilities for improving the game and immersion in the long term. Has Russ officially back tracked on this or is it still in the pipeline?

It sounded like it was still in the plans, but the townhall made sound like it something they do exclusively for nearly a year as a focus or work on on the background and release 3-5 years from now.

Interesting, is there a transcript on this anywhere as to exactly what was said?

If it's not going to improve hit detection I'd rather they didn't bother.

Just feels to me like its an excuse to not produce anything worth while like optimising, immersive Faction warfare, balance..

Engine upgrade is not a small thing. Quite the opposite. Some other MMO I've once played just mailed me about their proud achievement of (almost) finalising their engine upgrade+console port. Took them over a year and they're not finished yet.

Maybe. But even if they had already started there's no point even thinking about it yet. Send yourself an alert for next year or the year after,

I doubt this game will be here in 3 to 5 years and if so it will take 20 minutes to find a match as a light

An engine upgrade would be nice, but it takes years to develop one. I remember when WoW upgraded theirs, they went from Direct X 7 to Direct X 10 and though you could still use 7, you could definitely notice the performance difference, funny thing about MWO, I believe we're still using DX 7 settings (Which is what we were released with), I doub't we're actually using anything engine wise that is up to current standards.

The new game engine is to come late this year or the next. they have been keeping it low priority for now because they are trying to figure out which engine to choose.

Would be nice to have it sooner since it seems to limit things a lot, but better they take their time with it I guess and figure out the best method.

Well it was made fairly clear that the engine upgrade was a down the road kind of thing so I wouldn't worry about it not being around the corner.

Last I remember they were thinking of moving either to the next cry engine or another. They have to take their time as some newer game engines may help or hinder performance. Per example, melee implementation and the ability to actually make more functions available that can't be done in this engine. Me and Lordred's talked about it a month ago, I forget which engine he recommended they should use.

i think it was Ether Cry or Unreal, though both are different, they have a semblance of similarity,
meaning changes to Programing Code wont be as Tedious, the Biggest Problem is Code redundancy,
newer Engines may make some Code Irelivent,

Ex, in Unity2.6 there is a work around for removing an Item from a Scene to help Data Streaming,
,....in Unity3.0 they Changed it so you use the Command Add,recessionary = False, making it much easier,

Procurator Derek? I think I know your brother, Scout. Anyway. What if the next engine is also tied to the PVE campaign? Posted Image

This is a funny thread. There is no way that this is going to happen. And if by some miracle they work on it, this is the only dev group that could choose to upgrade to the latest cry engine and end up with the unreal engine.
