Well the design stays true to the original nature, which is being a close combat and meelee brawler (for which something else then LRM would have been better suited IMHO). But now at least it packs some punch. It is still not a good design IMO, but it's way less worse then the original :)

Soviet Alex is right, the variant fielded in 3039 was the 1A9. In Techincal Readout: 3050-Upgrade (p.87) the 3K is noted to have been unveiled in 3039 "just as the Clan invasion hit the Periphery". Read into that what you will. :D

Thug has 18 double heatsinks and Hatamoto has 18 single ones. Also, teh Thug's weapons do more damage, but we won't have dmg differences in MW:O. That means Thug is smaller, doesn't overheat and costs just over 100 000 C-Bills more.

As I said... junk. :)

I think this is the second time I have heard the Thug referred to as less than 80 tons. What is the source of this? Also, under what rule set do its weapons deal more damage than those of the Hatamoto-chi?

This mech is trying to be too much.. it's neither an assault nor a light.. but wants to be a scout.. even the new design of the 3K turns it into an oversized Catapult..

I'll admit, the original Charger is worthless in a game without melee. But concentrate on the good news: it's a heavily-moddable 80-ton chassis. The sheer variety of weapon loadouts on Chargers using 3025-tech is staggering, from the Capellan CGR-1A5 Victor-knockoff, to the aforementioned CGR-SB which is essentially an Awesome with 4 large lasers, to the LRM-20, 4 medium lasers & jump jets of the CGR-1A9. And since the tin samurai look of the hatamoto doesn't really fit with MW-O's artistic vision, I wouldn't mind seeing all those mechs as Charger variants too.

I hope the Charger makes it into the game, if only because when you play with a mech that everyone thinks is rubbish, you sometimes find out that everyone is wrong.

3K Mounts an Artemis LRM 20, making the missles more accurate, and 4 newer medium pulse lasers. With the speed of an average medium mech at that time and jump jets, it can offer fire support to other areas far more quickly than most heavys while keeping near the same level of armor protection. This mech can be useful in providing fire from behind enemies or responding to situations faster than attackers can anticipate. Not an overly powerful mech, but can be useful if given the right situation.
