Hi all!
I'm back after a long break, and i can't believe how much this game has changed.
The old "LRM stay back and shoot" tactic is nowhere near as effective as it was, the game is faster and more action packed.
I am struggling to find a new role, and re-learn the game, and i want to apologise to everyone that during my learning experience, im actually stinking up the battlefield!
Basically, im interested in learning a sniper role, i have the modules and mechs for this role, but im struggling to get to grips with it
Im normally loaded with ERLLAS and LRM's, and i have an advanced zoom module - and i just wondered if anyone has some basic advice for this role.
I have watched a few things on Youtube, but tbh i think you all have more experience and advice
Much respect to you all

Only thing I can really offer is keeping a spare eye on your minimap so you don't get left behind when the team starts advancing, seems like you have the rest of it down, really!

Thank You - despite the time i have had this game, i am still very green. However unlike most players, i actually WANT to get BETTER and be more helpful. I just had a good game im my Archer.
Atm my signature mechs are
WolfHound
Uller
Puma
Kintaro
Shadow cat
Ryoken
Hunchback IIc
Archer
And a few others. Its hard to learn, but i really want to get better and better, i actually want to help!

Actually there is no sniper role in MWO...never was.
Most engagements are between point blank and 800m.
I would even say next to every engagement comes to an poit where its at ~300m
Sniping would meen going out alone. Aka beeing light fodder.
There are 3 dominating maximes in Quickplay.
-- Stick with the pack if you are too slow you'll die. (70kph)
-- Share armor. The team with the most "snipers" or "lurmers" usually looses because the frontline mechs get eaten faster and snipers and lurmers cant hold themselves up close.
-- frontload OR laservomit don't mix weapon categories for either max alpha or short face time. (preferably both --> pulselazors)

Archers can be okish ... even with LRMs.
Key to playing them is not to boat and beeing aggressive in midgame.
Be mobile never bring more than LRM 30 ( 2x A15 or better 3xA10)
Your effective combat distance is between 200 and 600m.
Always bring secondary weapons and use them.
IS LRM are garbage for indirect fire because of the spread of their larger launchers.
Smaler lauchers like LRM 5x 6 will focus better but only complete beginners get fooled by them and your dps with them is hillarious.
Never chainfire unless you don't want to make damage (suppressionfire....but why suppress something you want to kill anyway right?)
Wolfhound is a good mobile support mech with 2LPls and 2 medlazors as pack supporter.
Or just with medlasers as harasser, with smal pulslasers as lightkiller.
Uller is a pretty decent utillity mech for ECM support, AMS and closerange support fire, requires timing and patience don't hunt for high damage scores.
Puma is .... meh.
Kintaro.....longtime no see.
Shadowcat ... the sadcat. Don't know how often I see them running around alone with 2 ERLLasers and ECM just to be ripped appart by a pair of lights.
It can be a decent ECM supporter if you cling to a large mech and wait till it gets engaged. Enemy will most likely ignore or miss your presence...
The Stormcrow is still the best med in game but particularly vulnerable to MWOs youngest addition, the Kodiak. Meds dont take high alphas well.
Hunchback IIC: Solid mech but squishy its essentially a mini Kodiak.
Can deal ungodly damage but is squishy like hell.

- This is superb advice. Its true, im early MWO in order to use ERLlas and LRM, you had to be a little more "away" in order to do your role, and ofc, being alone is now almost certain death, especially as Light mechs will run you ragged.
And mixing weapons can be bad - im guessing it depends on your mech's abilities.
You are correct, the range has closed in MWO now - thank you

Basically when the clans invaded in 3050 the IS had no idea what they were up against, and the IS gave clan mechs names based on what they saw the mechs as
Copied from Terrick -
LIGHT
Fire Moth - Dasher
Mist Lynx - Koshi
Kit Fox - Uller
Adder - Puma
MEDIUM
Viper - Dragonfly
Ice Ferret - Fenris
Nova - Black Hawk
Storm Crow - Ryoken
HEAVY
Mad Dog - Vulture
Hellbringer - Loki
Summoner - Thor
Timber Wolf - Mad Cat
ASSAULT
Gargoyle - Man O' War
Warhawk - Masakari
Executioner - Gladiator
Dire Wolf - Daishi
