pretty sure I made one of these posts way back when..... but with the broken search, can't find it to necro. And yeah, I wanna campaign (mildly) for the ASN.

Difference between this and certain other "campaigns" we saw earlier this year?
1) It's timeline correct
2) I plan to keep my campaigning essentially limited to this thread
3) added art!

4) Won't take dissenting opinions as personal attacks... unless, of course, they ARE personal attacks. Posted Image

That said, I will admit, it was my favorite mech in MW2: Mercs, and one of my favorite of the old TT minis. I also used it a fair bit in TT. So yeah, lot's of fond memories.

That said, it's also a very compact frame design, geometry more akin to MWOs Spider than anything else, overall, that's hiighly mobile and has the potential to be about as jumpy (or not, as a battlemech) as one could ask for.

Hardpoint layout is decent, for a missile energy build (similar to GRF-2N), so I think as a low end, fast striker Medium, it could have real potential.

40 tons:
Stock Engine: 280
Max Engine: 360
Jumpjets: 7 (5 on ASN-101)
Max Armor: 274 pts

ASN-21:
Armament:
RA: 1x Medium Laser
RT: 1x LRM5, 1x LRM ammo
LT: 1x SRM2, 1x SRM ammo

Hardpoints:
RA: 2x Energy
RT: 2x Missile
LT: 2x Missile

ASN-101:
Armament:
RA: 1x Medium Laser
RT: 1x LRM5, 1x LRM ammo, 1x Small Laser (Moved from RL)
LT: 1x SRM2, 1x SRM ammo, 1x Small Laser (Moved from LL)
H: 1x Small Laser

Hardpoints:
RA: 1x Energy
RT: 1x Missile, 1x Energy
LT: 1x Missile, 1x Energy
H: 1x Energy

ASN-23:
Armament:
RA: 1x Medium Pulse Laser
RT: 1x LRM5 w/Artemis, 1x LRM ammo

Hardpoints:
RA: 3x Energy
RT: 3x Missile

for a relatively conservative harpdoint inflation. Compared to waht we see on the Viper for instance, it's positively under-armed. But I would rather be conservative than oversell it. And hey, you never know when we might get pleasantly surprised by them adding more than expected, right?

But better to keep low expectations than work up this fever dream "perfect" Idea and have it fall short.

Thoughts, doubts, opinions and arguments? Feel free to post below!

***EDIT***

Also a possible ASN-23 alternate build
ASN-23:
Armament:
RA: 1x Medium Pulse Laser
RT: 1x LRM5 w/Artemis, 1x LRM ammo

Hardpoints:
RA: 3x Energy
RT: 2x Missile
LT: ECM slot

Got a little tired of the mixing just lasers and Missiles thing. Since the 23 has less weapons stock, and is a refit from an era when ECM was rediscovered, seemed liek the obvious candidate to slap it on, as it would also fit the bill for "making it an asset on some missions again" that tbh, the lore 3050 load out does NOT do. But ECM carriers were pretty rare in 3050, so that role for non capellan units (aka no Ravens) would be useful in and of itself.

and a Dale Sandstrom Hero "sample"

I'd love to see it. Not enough medium mechs in the game. This seems like a good platform to include (as well as the Vulcan), so why not? Good mech, good looking mech.

Semi-related note: I am surprised the Chameleon isn't in the game. A standard training medium mech.

Agreed, we do need the Assassin.

Mostly because I want to call it an @$$ :)

It will probably have a bit of Vindicator syndrome, so I at least hope it is small in stature, runs fast and jumps well. From what I can see, it should do that.

Admittedly, I've never really used the Assassin much, either in TT or MW2:Mercs, so my fondness for it is some what lacking... That being said, it would be an interesting option, and I might toss $20 at it, but even then, it would need to look like something special.

It feels like it's going to have commando syndrome; i.e. Too light with too big of an engine to make use of it's low weight.
The viper works for missiles because clan missiles.

IS Missiles? Eh. Realistically it's a 40 tonner oxide that's humanoid.

My money'd be on a wubcada against this. Not particularly sold on the idea.

better hardpoint layout than VND; ability to Sword and Board (on the 23) and being smaller and a whole lot faster, pretty sure it would play totally different.

Pod space is too low no? Like 4 SRM6 / 3 ASRM6 + 6t ammo 1 jet an XL255. No shield arms either.

Nice art btw. If you want to improve however you can check out How ot Draw and How to Render books by Scott Robertson, those are one of the best I've seen.

I'd like to see all the 3025 mechs in the game. I mean why not? People have been clamoring for the Wasp and Stinger. If those, then why not go for the Assassin, Vulcan, etc. Personally I'd like the Devish. They can keep the Ost series of mechs out though (I always felt that they just looked wrong...as if they were ripped off from yet another stompy robot universe ;) ).

Not really, the Vindy can't run fast with as many missiles as the Assassin could potentially be able to, if it could, it wouldn't be as terrible as it is.

I'd rather take the Oxide and max out the light slot instead of go in with a low tonnage medium.

Addendum: Where exactly is it's head? That bulbous canopy, or the front bit?

SRM4s and SSRM2s light enough to work. Also 4 laser version. 2 SRM6, 3 SPL, strip left arm and can toss anything from a Medium to an ERLL in the RA? Or for a more meta style, 4 MPL and either 2xSRM6 or 2xaSRM4. 101 could be a mean little bugger.

front bit, in the original Loose art, though like many of his pieces (dervish arm lasers being another) it takes some doing to confirm, and has as such been misrepresented by other artists later in canon.

Fluff would also back that up as having a rather tiny cramped cockpit, which the top would be significantly less (and also be unable to see much actually in front of you). Always assumed the dome was probably a radar housing.

Posted Image

Yellow line shows FoV if the top was the cockpit, which would be pretty much a death sentence, since for most mobility Battletech pilots still use their eyeballs to scan terrain, and the blind spots below the canopy would be unreal.

Nor does it make sense for the front panel and top to be linked somehow. Thus the front is the pretty obvious winner (queue people who feel the need ot argue for the sake of arguing..... NOW!)

Hey now, I thought I did an okay job on my thread (see signature link) :/

I kid I kid lol, back to topic! I think the Assassin is one of the pretty good shoe in Mechs, Russ and crew seem to be on a unseen binge (and who can blame them it has been far to long!) Besides a few Noteable new designs (Bushwacker ect.) Some of the orginal 3025 mechs should be added, also allows and why I think they will drop a few more unseens, is for Battletech to use the artwork as well. So I assume for a few more we will have the unseens (just not all of them)

Good post Bishop as usual (still gotta get you to draw a Mad Cat Mk II though sometime, maybe if I ask really nicely :P)

Ehhhhh, I don't know. In my honest opinion, there are too many IS mechs at the moment, so PGI should, in my opinion, be adding nothing but Clan mechs for the next while. Not just Omnimechs, but also Clan Battlemechs like the Horned Owl.

Sure it is. Just one that skipped a few sessions at the Gym. (After all, no one considers the CDA a credible Medium......) Posted Image

Plus...TBH, the palette of remaining IS Lights.... is not exactly a bunch of barnstormers, either. And that's before considering how poorly they fit the current sales model, tbh. Posted Image

Mongoose is just another Death Knell (that looks cooler)
Stinger, Wasp, Flea? All slower than the Assassin even
Valkyrie.... aside from Nostalgia.... so what?
Javelin---- Humanoid Jenner with less free tons
Hermes.... Junk laserboat
Hussar? Real niche...would be neat visually, at least.
Mercury? Laser Locust.

*shrugs*

Now if the 3055 Lights are available, even with made up variants.... that gives us a broader selection of mechs with varying degrees of potential. But do we want to (or does PGI want to, more accurately) push off timeline jump to force more made up mechs?
