Which is kinda the point, because often mechs die due to enough engine crits before the structure goes, especially if TACs are being played with, which is what makes them stay in the fight longer.

I was speaking for the standard engine. I said "half," as in the engine takes 3 slots of the 2 groups in the CT.

Not to mention that a crit anywhere else in the CT would basically end the zombie, as losing the gyro or PPC would cause loss of much of the mech's combat effectiveness.

Why are you still using the prime configuration as your sole judging material? The A has a Heavy PPC in each arm, losing the snub-nose isn't that big of a loss when talking about losing engine criticals instead especially when linked with C3i.

Because it's the case of the CT being attacked, with the zombie effect being everything else has been damaged beyond use. This is where having a compact fusion engine matters the most.

Maybe for you, but Catalyst seems to be doing better than Fasa. Mostly because Catalyst isn't run by Jordan 'ADHD' Weisman.

But I'm not going to take your nostalgia goggles off. You're allowed to pretend things don't happen. Denial of facts is a very human thing to do

Note that I can say esactly the same about your own post Posted Image

So... how many times have you repeated to yourself "jihad is good, jihad is good jihad is good"?...repetition is very important for self-persuasion.

Except thats not how it ever works, you don't want it to die before everything else around it is destroyed, having a standard engine does not always ensure that, compact engines however tend to do that better. They aren't useful much below maybe some heavies and assaults, but they are useful in TT. Perhaps my favorite besides the Archangel is the AWS-10KM which is a lighter version of the A variant of the Archangel essentially.

I never said it was good. I just said I liked it and acknowledge the fact it exists.

but only if group 2 has something in it. and once that this is destroyed, then all crit rolls are rerolled to 1st area anyhow. It helps, especially in a packed CT, but doesn't change the powecreep nature of mechs and techs in that era one whit, sadly.

You must have missed the clan invasion.

Nope. Context to that explained many posts ago. Clan invasion began the power creep. By the Jihad it was just flat out stupid.

By the jihad both is and clan are pretty evenly balanced. More so than the clan invasion era. Or is that what bugs you?

I don't think it is the balance that bothers him, so much as the pace of the game increased with the attempt to bring the IS on par with Clan.

I'm a level one snob, so I'm not really sure how this all works, but couldn't you just armor the engine and gyro for waaaaaaay less tonnage than replacing them with compact versions?

That's certainly true. But without adding new things to the game it becomes stale and not worth playing since you've already done everything.

Probably. But that's advanced/experimental tech for the Jihad era.

Story/lore wise, here's a few problems I have with the Jihad:

1. Pretty much all the likable characters from the previous generation are killed off in a one-off cheap fashion.
2. The enemy of the time is overpowered, everywhere at once, and for a while unstoppable.
3. Comstar does nothing until it is too late and barely affects the course of events.
4. There are way too many deus ex moments where the heroes are suddenly saved by some plot armor.
5. The cliche "everyone bands together to push back the greater threat"
6. The Capellan Confederation and FWL do very little to help with point #5.
7. The introduction of engineered humans that act as unstoppable super soldiers.

The above is why the Jihad has a lot of problems.

Except I lied and was talking about the Clan Invasion instead.

And the balance really was not that great, either, in actuality, which is why BV still failed miserably...speaking as a guy who played several of the formal Jihad events.

But yes, the powercreep was stupendous. Then I read the 3145 TROs, and just shake my head. By Mid FedCom Civil War, Btech itself was really just a Btech game in basic mechanics and name only. The Stupid Jr Anime craze had mechs running around with Katanas and Switchbaldes and Spikes, really stupid specialty munitions to keep normal ACs semi relevant, and all kinds of retconned retrotech.

Btech 3050-3060 was pretty bad, but the story part was at least well supported. By the Jihad they had defaulted on paying too many authors, there was little actuall backing fluff for the longest time. FedCom civil war again was passable because of the literature, but the mechs and weapons were pretty broken. And by the Jihad it was full on sprint for the most outrageous Uber Mechs imaginable.

But it is still better than the Dark Age.

They spent all their fun weapons ideas during the Jihad. Darkage new stuff seems like desperate grabs at straws.

see: re-engineered lasers.

I did not really like the Jihad story line, but I did like the Celestial mechs. But I know I am odd. It would be interesting to have them in game just to read all the ways people would think they are broken.

do you play spiders, commandos and myst linxs too?

The Archangel might see moderate success in MWO, if only because it would get a list of quirks a mile long to compensate for it's weakness. However, there are other mechs that would do much better, and actually be fun. Pack Hunter and Savage Wolf anyone?

Archangel sucks, as does Savage Wolf.

As for Pack Hunter, faster and better Hankyu with ECM is already in the game (or you can take Jenner IIC, if you like chicken walkers).

I'll take the Savage Wolf because it's the child of the Timberwolf, and it design is very kool, reminds me of the Marauder for some odd reason.

Even tho the insane engine will generate heat even while standing still and may have the 1 side torso death touch(don't know the rules for xxl's)
