Man, I'm going to miss running under the ramps on HPG Manifold. I don't think the Jenners will fit anymore.

I find it funny how much whining there already is over this. When you look at the full lineup everything makes sense and is to scale to one another. Before the 35 ton Wolfhound was similar in size to a 25 ton Commando despite being almost 30% heavier. If anything I think this shows that the Inner Sphere should get a couple more 20 ton mechs; like the Flea, that was promised almost 3 years ago...

Those re-scales are terrible...
I liked playing with my panthers... now they are as big as a medium...
Same for the wolfhound...

Most IS light now will be useless... what's the point of using them if they are this big?

On the other side the locust is now tiny. Guess we found the new mech of choice of IS light pilots.

well out of curiosity, what is your reasoning why a 35 tonner should not be slightly smaller then a 40 tonner?

Yea lets make all IS Light mech the size of Grasshoppers. Remember these are minor changes.

Thanks Russ for shrinking all the clan mechs and making the IS mech the size of centurions.

What the hell are they smoking?

Yes because bending the knees on a few mechs is totally re scaling them down to smaller size. Also last i checked the Jenner IIC got about a 20% increase in size, oh yeah, the Dire Wolf also looking at about a 10% increase in size on something that was already the size of a small moon. Educate yourself before b****ing and
look at the damn comparison chart before whining!

wrong.

the dire wolf got smaller than it was. not bigger.
the ct got shrunk side to side, and the whole mech got squished front to back.

wth are you even talking about when saying the dire wolf got 10% bigger.
how do you figure

the comparison chart sucks.
a spider shouldn't be that much bigger than a locust simply due to the fact it has only a couple of hardpoints
where as the locust can actually use several weapons at once

Pretty sure old men like Russ/Paul got wrecked by lights like Jenner/FS9 so they thought it was OP, despite being hands down, the lowest % played class in the game.

It's like, if you get wrecked by a KDK or Atlas in a face tank, they say, oh its ok, its 100 tons of dps. But when a 35 tonner wrecks you in melee range, putting itself in the center of the enemy team (or waiting very long to get to backstab, while others get to have fun the moment they see the enemy).

Lights can wreck, but you have to be very patient, waiting a long time for the enemy team to engage your team in a brawl before you get to have any fun at melee range. Every other weight class gets to have fun and do big numbers the moment they see the enemy. Lights can't do that. And you nerf them.

My mistake, i got the Direwolf mixed up with 2 mechs, the Executioner and the Highlander IIC which have both been enlarged by about 10%.

The Spider is 10 tons heavier, can carry a bigger engine, and more firepower in some cases, get over it!

Stop whining about light mechs.

Stop whining about clan mechs.

Light mechs need to be larger, just so the Grasshopper doesn't accidentally step on them *way down there*...

Seriously though, a hell of a lot of effort has gone into this. It makes sense (mostly), and it adds some variation to the game, which helps keep it interesting. There's always going to be people who play one mech with one build who maybe like exploiting how good it is compared to everything else in it's class; any change to that, yeah of course they're not going to like it.

Clan or IS, I don't care. Everyone's in the same boat, it's just people are more likely to shout louder if they don't like something than if they do.

I mean, it's not like you have to wade through all the threads *moaning about the Catapult* before you find this one.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I have a feeling Arctic Cheetahs are going to become even more popular. I already felt like I was cheating taking out mine. Maybe they fixed the hit reg issues on it... I can dream...

Noooo, i can't facetank heavies anymore! This is terrible!
Seriously ppl... light have their speed. Reason no one play lights, it's cause you don't understand how things works.
Light not for duel enemy heavies and assaults, but for ratswarm tactics, killing critted mechs and backstab strikes(i got personally killed by oxide in CW. I had full hp heavy mech but he backstabbed me to death in 4 secs and size wasn't point there because lights are Fast and can outrun other mechs classes). You shoud outperform your enemy by your personall skill not by mech size. In reality of battletech light mech can run from heavy or assault, not fight it(otherwise he will be smashed to pieces) learn to play safe and place youself properly. Current recale for lights ar pretty minor, and if you can't deal with it and keep it on, then you just not light pilot. Pilot other classes of mechs then. If you really like lights you WILL pilot them and do it properly.

And yes nerfs for alpha-mech meta incoming soon, so i don't think it will be problem. Guess mech rescale only first step before more major changes(targeting detecting etc.)
Sorry my bad english.

...which anyone with a working understanding of geometry could have known as soon as they announced they'd rescale based on volume. The reason is the more spherical body, not the legs, though.

The 35 tonners were all clearly way too small. The difference between the Jenner and the Cicada right now is ridiculous, considering they are almost the same weight. @Those who claim the lights are the same size as the Mediums, when I compare Panther, Enforcer, Griffin who have a very similar body structure, it looks pretty correct to me. Same with Jenner/Raven/Crab. The Catapult looks a bit on the small side at first glance, but then, its body is rounder and there are the huge missile throwers. Plus, with compact bodys, the weight increase is less visible than in thin, humanoid bodys.

Obviously this is a huge debuff to those 35 tonners. They probably should have given them a bit more in terms of quirks. We'll see what happens in July.

Oh I'm not disputing that lights were on the whole to small for a long time.

However, if they stop being playable, as light relies on not being hit, because it has virtually no armour, and frankly the people in big jobs complain because they are bad shots or dumb and get isolated, or are taking fire and the light comes up behind it, actually doing its job, as it is because there is no proper info warfare, you can wave goodbye to the light except the arctic cheater because it remained the same size and has ECM.

I shot plenty out the skys with ac20's when I played a lot and before the JJ's got nerfed, and one of the few kills that has remained burned in my mind, and will stay there even when this game is dead and gone was a perfect head shot with again an AC20 and its maximum effective range as it ran between the gap in two buildings.

Also number three on P.G.I's claimed list was pragmatism which if you look it up hang on I'll do it for everyone.

pragmatism

ˈpraɡmətɪz(ə)m/

noun

  • 1.

    a pragmatic attitude or policy.
"ideology had been tempered with pragmatism"

  • 2.

    PHILOSOPHY

an approach that evaluates theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application.

It would have been within the remit to say o.k we do need to make them bigger, its right and fair, but we don't need to do it quite as much as the math says we should, or there is a danger we'll make them unplayable.

But they didn't, and the end result is many people will give up playing lights some may even give up the game all together, and people leaving is something this game cannot afford.

    Further effect

Zerg rushes will now only really work for clan, with arctic cheaters, they could be tried, but will be much harder, with a big penalty that clan won't have, taking away an option from the I.S side, further reducing its weak population.

Bottom line is that these changes will not see an increase in population and are in fact likely to further reduce it.

I will also point out that I'm saying this from the perspective of a player that plays lights because I'm either mastering them for OCD's sake or I need one in a deck for F.W.

My favourite mechs are no lighter than 50 tons and my all time favourite swings between the Battle Master, Victor, Warhammer, or Crusader, depending on my mood.

  • Edit

get your specs out for the definition, going out, food shopping. If I remember to, I'll adjust font size when I'm back

Well this is pure fun.

The increased mortality rate due to bigger hit-boxes will most likely result in yet another reduction in the player base for this class.

Some of the Light pilots will most likely move to Lolcusts and Arctic Cheaters, since the former got some love and the latter remains unchanged for now, as at least the Light population won't die off entirely.

I'll remain loyal to my Spider, despite it getting a double whammy, just like the Jenner (increased size and reduced mobility from the Movement Archetype), unless it somehow proves to be entirely unplayable nowadays. Can't say the same for most of the rest of my Lights, though.

But I'm sure sure many others will be delighted if the game gets de-Lighted...

Well, I hope some amazing quirks are inbound for the huge lights. While, yes, technically they are about the right size now, they weren't popular before back when they were tiny. Now, nobody will play them, aside from Locust pilots who got a big boon out of the resizing.

I don't disagree with the rescaling itself, but next must come the rebalancing - having everything properly sized for its tonnage does NOT equate "all mechs are equally viable." It's just a good starting point.

Out of curiosity, has anyone done the hard numbers on exactly how much my favorite Wolfhound has grown? Pretty sure that's a hell of a lot more than 7%.
