i suspect if the penalty for power draw is 30 this will change the game too much over night.
people's builds will become bad builds.

people are already talking about a dps/dakka metagame replacing the current meta

make it 40 so it replaces ghost heat without changing the game too much

remember that change can have unexpected consequences.

you are running the risk of alienating your playerbase for the 100th time.

i urge you reconsider and make power draw start at 40 or at least become noticeable at 40 damage

laser builds like the black knight often shoot 40 damage and it's not that big of a deal

i'm telling you this power draw will see mechs fall into disuse if you don't move it over to 40

i could tell russ directly but i'd rather commit suicide than sign up for twitter

remember that what you want to do is replace ghost heat with something less convoluted and senseless. what you DONT want to do is change the game the playerbase clearly enjoys (or they wouldn't be playing) overnight.

dunno about it overall. most brawl mechs are simply built around a alpha concept. they cant allow themselves to spare firepower when in brawls and still cold.

i guess it will be the outright death of brawl assaults like a victor which really NEED to alpha to work.
thats a 55 alpha for mine. it works. for now. without ghost heat simply because of hybrid loadout.
i would rather see quirks for all available weapon systems on a mech than quirking single weapons like er large laser quirks.

dragon-1c is a good example. you can fit all weapon systems in a mix and it works well if you play it right.
but mine has a 42 alpha and cant sustain damage long anyway.

power drain would propably kill viable hybrid-brawl builds as well....

I completely disagree.

While I don't think the power draw system is going to work the way I hope (personally); in its current form, 40 would be just too high. That's enough to 2-shot most non-assaults with alpha (and 1-shot some).

Since this change is meant to change the game, I think 30 is a good starting number. It precludes the ability to 1-shot anything and significantly increases the face time needed for heavier opponents.

This is conjecture, but I don't think that 30 is too arbitrary a number. That still limits a lot of Clan weapons to two, bit allows three of the equivalent IS versions. Notably the ER Large Laser.

I really dislike the "magic number" system we have as current, and I hope that this succeeds.
