There seems to be a number of players in matches they do not belong. With that I mean that some play so bad they never ever can be T3 or better. I have had this thought for several days now and today one fellow of my unit mentioned the same thing and we talked about it and all agreed.

Today was even worse: I faced a Jenner IIC-O and a Warhawk (LRMs/pulse lasers) in a Canyon trench and killed them both with my Jenner IIC (6 x small pulse lasers). That could never ever have happed if they were T3 or better. The Jenner was so dumb as to overheat and letting me kill it.

And this is just one example of weird things going on.

Is the matchmaker broken or has the playerbase finally reached a critical point so that the MM has to open the valves to get games going?

I sincerely doubt that these were new players which reached T3 already...

Group queue or solo? If it was group, that queue is always messed up since it has to jigsaw a bunch of strange group sizes, and match quality suffers as a result. If it was solo queue, the question becomes what the target tier of the match was, since IIRC it can go up to +/-2 tiers (which would mean a t3 match could have the full range of tiers).

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. Quick Play (solo)

Target range tier 1-3

Maybe it's just a bunch of dads playing, since it's fathers' day, and they're all out of practice or starting to get too old to keep up with the ristars.

Everyone is Tier 1 nowadays. Literally met a T1 forumwarrior like 3 times just now. 50-150 dmg in 95t assault.
Working as IntendedTM.

Tier has nothing to do with skill, as your PSR goes up even if you're terrible but the team wins.
So if there aren't already, there will be terribads in all tiers.

I just quit playing.

No point in winning 2 games and losing 10 everytime I sign on cuz the team is overloaded with tier 5's.

Good luck PGI.

Which is too bad, considering its entire purpose is to balance matches according to player "skill," hence the term Pilot "SKILL" Rating.

It is working as intended. PSR is intended to keep very experienced players out of the same field that the newseals are in. PGI is a canadian company and they know something about seal clubbing.

The actual reason for PSR is to keep veterans (Tier 1 & 2) from clubbing newly-arrived seals (Tier 5) and chasing them out of the game. Other than that it's just an XP bar. A mediocre player will get to Tier 1 eventually.

Tier 3 and Tier 5 see each other all the time.

Tier 1 sees 1 2 and 3
Tier 2 sees 1,3 and 4
Tier 3 sees 1-5
Tier 4 sees 2-5
Tier 5 sees 3-5

A tier 1 will never see a tier 4 or 5, sadly I think tier 3 4 5 are the majority of quick queue.

Your first mistake is assuming the matchmaker actually cares about skill.

It only cares about how much you've played- a barely-carried player is just as "skilled" to the MM as the guy who kills 4 opponents nearly every game, as long as the usual massively biased PSR gets a chance to work.

Advancing to T3 and playing with T1s is inevitable given regular play. The ability to actually build 'Mechs and/or pilot them is anything but. Enjoy your potato crop, more will be ready to harvest every day.

Agreed. PSR should be not increase this easy in a win. In a loss it's fine as it is.
