Why? There is literally no reason to take a Mauler unless you intend to boat ballistics. Putting missiles on it makes your torsos easier to blow up thanks to the big missile racks (stupidly huge ones when using large LRM launchers), and the energy hardpoints are all mounted low in the arms.

Frankly, at my lower level of play I doubt I will be able to tell much of a difference with any of the mechs before this quirk pass vs after it. The loss of the 10% ballistics might encourage me to take 5AC5 over 4UAC5 but meh.
That said, I still wish the various quirk changes and additions made some sense. Many of them just boggle me. Erll quirks on the 1R? AC/2 on the 1P?

As for the ballistic debuff, I again don't see why it HAD to be removed, I'm just saying I see the logic due to how well it did it. That said, it seems like a small enough change where an OMG sky is falling response seems a bit overblown (especially due to the guns positioning).
Who knows, maybe every 5% makes a world of difference in the comp scene that I am not seeing. *shrug*

If anything I still think they'll be more useful than the King Crab, now they have the same cooldown as the 4 ballistic slot King Crabs and 5% less than the 6 slot King Crab, but they get higher mounted hardpoints.
God Tier Mauler with 15% cooldown quirk, 5% fast fire boost, and 12.5% cooldown module, AKA roughly 50% faster ROF, you shall be missed.
I'm just going to calculate DPS on the old Mauler and new Mauler running quad UAC5 1R variant, and the KDK-3 with quad UAC10, in all cases with module and fast fire
Current Mauler: 15.953 DPS without double taps
New Mauler: 14.749 DPS without double taps
KDK-3: 18.8 DPS without double taps
So Mauler gets a little over 78% of the damage, but 50% of the heat per second, and a bit more velocity and range. Still very competitive in my eyes.
