Why do people think mechwarrior is designed for joysticks?

Ok right I understand how controls work with a mouse and keyboard but you stated that I would not need twist on my joystick to control torso, that is not a true statement.
Oh, that's not what I meant. A few posters seemed to say that the joystick twist would be needed, and this was why they wanted a joystick over a mouse.

Im sorry but that thing is butt ugly.
Give me at least a proper throttle handle on the left side with plenty of buttons on both. That little thumb switch for throttle looks HORRIBLE. Not to mention a pair of rudder flaps on the throttle for turning my mech.

I fail to see how this is functionally different than chasing the target with a joystick.
think about it this way... use a pencil and write your name... one option allows you to see what you are writing and is direct tactile input... the other you have to move your pencil to where you want the line to go, and wait for the line to catch up before you can move to the next portion of the line... maybe you have no issue with "dead time" and you can simply wait for your reticule to catch up, I would shout out of frustration and want to punch kittens.

I love the x52, but I went with its baby brother (Cyborg-X) for cost purposes. It was only 28 dollars or something like that and I have had zero problems with it.

Joysticks.
Mechwarrior hard mode.
I hear people say this but there is no way that you can get the smooth and fluid motion you get out of a fast moving light mech with 3D joystick using a keyboard when you actually fight on the move. Yes if your hopping straight up and down or playing stationary sniper you may see and advantage and I only met one pilot who impressed me sniping.
However when you are weaving through an enemy lance in your Raven at 100+ kph, steering aiming and evading all at the same time come tell me about the superiority of mouse and keyboard again.
There are tons of people that want to attribute the survival skills of the competitive light mech pilots to lag but the truth of the matter is that most light mech pilots just did not survive and of the pilots that did well in the light chassis I can't recall one that used mouse and keyboard.

As for joysticks making the game harder, let me know when they rip out the yoke or joystick out of aircraft and replace it with a mouse. They are in there for a reason.

Thats not even the finished model, they are still in the design phase for the thing so I dont know what it will look like when it's done, I imagine it will have a bigger throttle I think ive even seen a different design with a bigger one.

I don't understand. Mouse controls your torso movments, keyboard your overall steering. How does joystick help?
I fail to see how this is functionally different than chasing the target with a joystick.
Having movement most other controls in one place is more convienant than using m/k having to reach all over keyboard for hot keys is just less efficient in mech combat in my opinion

There are more than enough keys in easy reach of WASD. Why would I need to move my hand all over?

It helps in that you get both direction and torso control in the same hand, leaving the other only for throttle control or other tasks. With a dedicated programmable throttle, you have every function you'll ever need in your hands and never have to let go of speed or directional control to access a different function on the keyboard.

It is different, because a twist on the stick will be directly connected to the torsos movement. there will be no reaction time. There will be no waiting for the torso to match up to were you aim, instead you move the torso faster or slower, into one direction or the other, in a speed depending on how far you twist your stick to either side.
In short: You don't wait, you act and control! It is much less frustrating (my opinion).
