Why do people think mechwarrior is designed for joysticks?

I always played this game better on a joystick. I think that it adds a hint of realism to the game. At least until someone creates a neural-helmet that one could wear to pilot a mech.

U think some people don't realize how precise you can move with a analog type joystick. Movement buttons on a keyboard are either full on or off, where as a joystick you go as fast as you want to move.

Turn speed is already limited on a mech. It won't be that hard to compensate. If Trackmania can work just fine with keyboard, so can MWO.

personaly ill be using a mouse/keyboard because im more skilled with it, i dont need a disadvantage (sorry joystick users, im just better with a keyboard/mouse, quicker responce) but, the hawken controller with duel joysticks?i can see that putting joystick users on the same level as mouse users when it comes to responce timing.

I do not recall ever seeing a picture of a Mech cockpit with a mouse in it.....

I am sure that MWO will function with a mouse and keyboard or with joysticks and that some people will favor one over another. Hopefully the game will not give a torso movement advantage to either method.

I do not always play MechWarrior games, but when I do,.....I prefer a joystick for the extra firing buttons. Helps me utilize weapon grouping to maximum effect.

It helps in that you get both direction and torso control in the same hand, leaving the other only for throttle control or other tasks. With a dedicated programmable throttle, you have every function you'll ever need in your hands and never have to let go of speed or directional control to access a different function on the keyboard.

I'm still not seeing an advantage. Unless there are as many hotkeys as a standard MMORPG, you can easily control everything without ever moving your hand.

It is different, because a twist on the stick will be directly connected to the torsos movement. there will be no reaction time. There will be no waiting for the torso to match up to were you aim, instead you move the torso faster or slower, into one direction or the other, in a speed depending on how far you twist your stick to either side.
In short: You don't wait, you act and control! It is much less frustrating (my opinion).

I don't see how that could be any less frustrating. The torso is still moving in the same way. If anything, having to constantly readjust my joystick would be more annoying, instead of just sticking the mouse where I want it to aim.

There are more than enough keys in easy reach of WASD. Why would I need to move my hand all over?

You cannot use the wasd and hot keys at the same time while with joystick you can move twist and use other contols at same time instead of having to take finger off of a or d while still needing to continue the turn

Wingman Warrior. Worked great with Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries...

Mouse/keyboard is great for FPS because of the amount of freedom you can get through moving.

However more than likely in MWO Your torso turn rate will be limited. If it's lightning fast watch out for me because I'll have some shenanigans to pull.

Harabeck... you obviously feel very strongly against a joystick... please do not use one... you ask a question, get the same answer worded differently from several people, and you argue with all of them, even thou you are the minority. We get it... you want to use a keyboard. You seem to be determined to convince someone to "switch" to your way of thinking.

Simple, mechs are made to be piloted with "joysticks" in the cockpit and as such it makes sense for them to be better controlled by them in the game itself. A lot like flight simulators, really. :)

Err, I'm not sure how you play WASD games, but I can do it just fine. The thumb can always reach several keys no matter what your hand position is, and rarely do you need to use both W/S and A/D in the same instant (especially true for MWO since W/S will probably just be throttle). So you always have fingers open to go for hotkeys.

I'm curious, what sorts of hotkeys do you think will be required to play MWO that you're so concerned about them?

if mouse and KB are so superior, why don't we drive tanks, cars, fighter jets, cranes, or forklifts ?

I'm expressing an opinion. Others are expressing theirs. We're all doing it civilly. Where is the problem??

For me it's a joystick and throttle. Love the immersion factor.

Yes the mouse will be more accurate and yes the winning obsession people im sure will use it for precision

however, this being a simulator game its just got to be played with a joystick surely!!!!

Mouse aiming might be easier but a good throttle with rudder flaps and a solid joystick gives so much more immersion - If i can combine that with TrackIR/TrackNoIR for HUD aiming then Im in heaven. Especially when I can use the below sticky.

I remember playing MW2 with a joy stick and it was fun, felt more like the real deal. But I also remember destroying a half dozen joy sticks playing flight games because I tend to push to hard on them as my adrenalin spiked in the heat of battle. Immersed I get, but I've found its not the controllers that make it happen its the game its self. As someone said a neurohelmet did alot of the work for the pilot, so when developer makes neurohelment as a way for the player to play the game I'll probably just stick to my mouse and keyboard.

i find the joystick work wonders because i needed one hand to shot and move while the other hand can work on the minor stuff like passive radar and could control the rear and the side cameras easily

actually, it seems some stick-users are trying to convince him of theirs ideas...
