Hi everyone! Like all here, no doubt, I have long played the MW games, and Battletech before them. With such an experienced community, we no doubt know the setting well, and wish a simulation of the likes of older games, and then some. (I know I do!)

That being said, I wanted to toss a few ideas that'd I'd love to see in a Mech game, And thought that, no doubt others have ideas that would be amazing to see. (If not in THIS game, in future titles.)

The first dream of mine is melee combat. It's long been in the boardgame and many mechs are built around the idea. Whether it is an axe (Axeman, Hatchetman) a sword like many Kurita mechs, or just the fists - many are designed around the concept of physical weapons as part of the machine. I've seen discussion about calculating sub parts, something that has never really been done, but has no longer any technical reason limiting it. This could work off the same system. There is little reason to not have dozens of hitboxes per mech especially on a PC only title. It would be interesting to balance, but we've had the basis for many years.

The second would add another layer of immersion. We are all hoping for joystick support, and while they have not confirmed it, in the PC gamer interview it makes it sound likely. I would like to see something I have never seen before. Dual Joystick support (and yes, pedals too!) It would be truly interesting to learn, and true to lore. I do not know if Windows would even allow it, actually, but it's something I wished to try since MW2.

Post your ideas! Perhaps we can give the devs an idea they love, but haven't thought of!

Edit: just saw this in the FAQ:

"Q. Will MechWarrior® Online™ have Mech melee combat?"

"A. At this point in time we are not looking at melee combat. We may revisit melee combat if we can design something that is fun and does not compromise the overall gameplay experience."

So, let's hope!

So disappointing. I just don't see how melee combat, done even halfway right, would "compromise the experience." It's a big part of 'mech combat, in the novels, in the boardgame...but never in the video games. Why? =/

Are there going to be options for color customization when released or will something like that come later on?

Has there ever been melee combat in Mechwarrior/Battletech? I think at best ultra short range/high damage weapons would cut it, but not big fancy chainsaws and swords

Yep, I hope for melee combat and the Meta game that was pushed back.

Really want to pilot a hatchet swinging mech

Oh, and of course be able to kick mechs to get them to fall over, then kick them again while they are down

Would also give a reason for those lower arm actuators, instead of them just taking up space lol

I'm pretty sure they have confirmed it. If not in words, by releasing their own branded joystick, the Artmeis...

Ramming speed ! I read the dev quote above but honestly ?

Any mech particularly those with 'hand' extremities could and would cause damage close in by 'fisting, chopping, grabbing, holding mech axe or sword' an enemy mech etc. (And yes these all exisited in BT novels and BT rules)

Will collisions cause damage in game ? If so surely it is a minor side step to code additional damage if a 'melee' style weapon is deployed whilst in collision range, target to the front and pressing selected weapon button ?

This would add a real element of BT to the game and it will be missed by many I think if it is excluded.

Devils advocate hat on......Would this possibly turn the game into two Mechs 'sword/axe fighting? ...Hat off. I can see a place ingame for some form of collision melee attack. Otherwise why bother programming for Mechs with hands if one of their prime 'weapons' is unusable in game. What I would not want to see if Mechs running around uprooting trees and battering each other into scrap whilst all those lovely advance weapons they have fitted rust into oblivion.

what are fully modeled hands are good for if not grabbing a big tree and than swing it into another mechs Center when he comes around a corner?

Problem I see is this , Its fine to read it in books or play the BT game of old , but in anyform being a 3d reality as in real life if the mechs were real ( 3d virtual real ) there would be little melee combat as the one with melee weps would get blasted to scrap before it could get close enough ... I would hate it to be like a powerrangers exploit of two giant robots doing ninja kicks ..... or one mech doing a bennyhill running after another and the other running away so to get range to fire on the said melee mech .... nope be a mess so leave it out lol .

I think it defeats the object of have long range lasers and missiles , scouts , be like WWF for mechs , I dont see a reason for including it unless it could be a mode or a battleground type so all mechs in the battleground are barred from anything but melee weps then I guess it would be like sat night down the high street a mass brawl .
